The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti is the Kenyan version of the legendary former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director J. Edgar Hoover who revolutionised the agency into an effective arm of federal law enforcement. The DCI chief’s ambition was always to fight crime and this has been clearly depicted by the jobs he has undertaken since graduating from the university.

He is a brave leader who risked his life in a bid to rescue a victim of a robbery. He was shot at 28 times with five bullets hitting his stomach and ripping apart his intestines.

This near-death incident strengthened his resolve to fight crime.

“I knew the thugs were killing me. I really fought. Fortunately, they did not get the upper part of my body. My stomach was ripped into pieces. Those who rescued me collected my intestines. My leg was in two pieces,” he told The Star.

He went on to say:

“My intestines were on the tarmac. Those who picked me up declared me dead. On arrival at the hospital, the nurses placed a tag on me saying ‘dead’…….”

It was a miracle that he survived and he has since declared he is not afraid to die fighting crime.

Age & Background

Kinoti was born in 1967 in the slums of Meru. It goes without saying that life in the slums is not easy for most people and he was no exception. He was brought up by a single mother.

Education

The head of DCI at one point wanted to become a priest and attended Pope Pius Seminary School. He joined Kanyakine High School and was a remarkable student who showed great leadership skills where he went to became the school captain. After high school, he joined Egerton University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. He also got a Master’s degree in security from the same University.

Career

He worked as a private assistant to the Director of Criminal Investigation before quitting to form the Kanga Squad. This was a unit he formed so as to fight rising crime. The job was dangerous as it required them to undertake difficult tasks.

Previously, he had worked as head of security at the Central Bank of Kenya. He then served as National Police Service Spokesman.

In 2018, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him the Director of Criminal Investigation to replace Ndegwa Muhoro.

Recently, a Citizen TV journalist did an expose which showed how police lease their uniforms, guns, handcuffs, and other paraphernalia to criminals. This was not met well by Kinoti who accused the journalists of tainting the name of the police service. He added that they had filed a complaint with the Media Council of Kenya against the station.

Family

George Kinoti And His Family During A National Event Image/Operanews

Kinoti has kept his family out of the public eye which is no surprise due to the nature of his work. In his position, he is likely to encounter scrupulous people who may use his family to get to him. He is married with three children and the only memorable time they have appeared in public was when he took them to celebrate Madaraka day.

Award

In 2018, he was among the hundreds of Kenyans who received awards and honors from president Uhuru Kenyatta. He was awarded the Chief of the order of the burning spear (CBS) award alongside Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.

Charles Owino is a name that many Kenyans easily identified with having been a long serving National Police Service Spokesperson. He is an outspoken individual who got animated when it came to defending police officers. Owino appeared on a number of interviews and wowed viewers with his eloquence as well as a suave ability to answer tricky questions that painted police officers in bad light.

The high-ranking officer was all set to run for the Siaya gubernatorial seat in the 2022 general elections but found the kitchen too hot.

Here is the story of Charles Owino as told by WoK.

Age

Mr. Owino revealed in an earlier interview that he had clocked the age of 50.

Career

The outspoken cop has worked in various capacities before landing where he is at the moment.

In January 2018, he received a promotion and was named the director of communication services in the National Police Service. He took over the position from George Kinoti who was appointed the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI)

The previous year, he had been appointed assistant inspector general alongside seven other senior officers.

From mid-2013, he had served as OCPD Njoro before being moved to Ndiwa. He was then put in charge of security in Kisumu county.

Moved to Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons (KNFP)

Charles Owino has moved to the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons (KNFP) in the latest changes announced by the Inspector General of Police. He will be the deputy director.

Also Read: Hillary Mutyambai Biography, Age, Education, Career and Marriage

Politics

In February 2021, he expressed his intention to retire from the police force and venture into politics.

He will vie for the Siaya gubernatorial seat and is optimistic of being the next county chief.

“I have worked in the police service and I am prepared to win. I am your son and I have in the past not been close to ODM and its elected leaders due to the nature of my work and now that they are in the system, I have sat with them and enjoyed their company,” he was quoted by Kenyans.co.ke.

He further stated that he will introduce sustainable projects to benefit the people of the county.

Wealth and Corruption

After working in the force for a while, he is able to live comfortably. During a vetting process years earlier, he freely divulged his source of wealth. He said he is the only living solution of problems facing the police service. The former deputy inspector general revealed that he gets millions from his fish farm.

He went on to say that corruption in the service was attributable to poor morale and lack of proper remuneration, that it was unfair to put so much power in an individual with too little in their pockets.

“It is said that police officer armed with a dog and a gun is earning sh16,000 in a month compared to a KK guard who earns Sh35,000 only with a rungu,” he said in a 2015 interview.

Family

As a man in the limelight from time to time, he has chosen to keep his family out of the public eye. However, he once revealed that he lost the mother of his children because of a hit and run accident but justice was never served since no one got the car’s number plate.

With the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results officially out, candidates who did not qualify to join university are wondering what the future holds.

However, it’s not the end of road for the rest for the majority of candidates who missed out on university slots.

The government is keen to ensure that no learner is left out.

The thought process among Kenyans is that a degree is what guarantees one a job is gradually changing thanks to the many tarmacking graduates.

There are marketable courses that those who scored C (plain) and below can still pursue.

In addition, we can start from as low as certificate and rise to become a degree holder with time.

Here are some courses one can attempt with a Grade C or below and still succeed in life.

Computer Repairs

If you love computers then this is the perfect course for you. Institutes such as Regional Centre Training Institute and Institute Advanced Technology (IAT) are some of the best in the country. Graduates from these institutions-and similar ones-are guaranteed repair jobs given the sheer numbers of people/institutions who own computers in the country.

Automotive Engineering

Most of the mechanics out there learned their trade on the job. And this is what separates the very best mechanics with those who have perfected the art of trial and error. Automotive engineering involves design, manufacturing, modification and maintenance of an automobile of cars other transportation vehicles. This course is a sure bet for those keen on being self employed or keen on working for big auto companies.

Building and construction

Building a house is an expensive affair. To join this course you only require D Plain and can advance to a degree.

Electrical and electronic engineering

A very attractive course that is worth checking out. One of the colleges worth checking out for this course is Nairobi Technical Training Institute.

Hospitality and Tourism

Although said to be amongst the hard-hit sectors at the moment, this remains among the best courses.

With a mean grade of C, many colleges are admitting the students for this Diploma course.

The smartest thing about it is that one can land an opportunity in tourism sector or even convert his place to an AirBnB and professional manage his place professionally.

Sales and Marketing

Various companies are looking for people who can market their products.

As such, taking such a course won’t be a bad idea. This equips you for the job market and also gives you knowledge on how to start and push your own products in the market.

Journalism & Mass Communication

This is also one of the courses which doesn’t require a degree to get started.

Some of the journalists we know today have a Diploma.

All one needs is to have a mean grade of C, and a C+ (plus) either in English or Kiswahili. The beauty with this course is that you can start your blog and make money out of it.

Administration

To become an administrator, you don’t have to hold a degree.

Many firms today are looking for people who they can trust with the management of the company.

Information Technology

You can start from the certificate level to the highest levels you can imagine. This is one of the courses that will always be marketable. You just have to be good at it.

Nutrition and Health

Many people today are in need of nutritional and health advice.

From health facilities to individuals, the places where nutritional experts are needed are so many.

This means that one can dive into the course with an aim of becoming a nutritional advisor.

Web and Graphic Design

Did you know that even with a D+ you could learn this course and become a sought-after person?

Today web creators and administrators are needed all over. Designers are also needed to help in decor and and designs.

Accounting and Finance

Various companies and business are in need of accountants to manage their finances.

You may not be surprised to find an accountant who holds no degree managing finances for degree holders and other learned people.

These are just but some courses parents and guardians can consider advising their children about.

Candidates need to be reminded that all is not lost, even if they didn’t excel as per their expectations to see them to universities.

Popularly known as “Muhae”, Murang’a Boys’ High School is a Catholic-sponsored government school. It is located in Murang’a town, in Kuharu Constituency, Murang’a East Sub-county.

SCHOOL’S HISTORY

The institution was started in 1964 as a mere day school with only 35 learners. The late Bishop Gatimu was the pioneer school head. Since then, it has developed into a boarding school, playing host to over 1,200 boys.

However, in 1996 the late Gatimu called over the national government to take over the school’s operations.

The school has a staff population of 50 teachers both males and females. There are also several subordinate staff members.

Owing to its growth both physically and academically, the school was elevated to a National School in 2014.

SCHOOL’S MANAGEMENT

Murang’a Boys is currently led by W. M. Kuria as the principal. Mr. Kuria works with the help of the Board of Managers (BOM) which consists of members namely,

Matias N. Kabiru, David Ng’ang’a, John Kirunda, Kenneth Mbuthia, Anthony Mwaura, Rachael Ng’ang’a, Faith Kiarie, Father-in-charge Fr. Mburu, Samuel Irungu…

…Naomi Njoroge, Felistus Muyia, Simon Nyoike, John Karuru, and Grace Njoki.

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

The school had reportedly lost its glory in the past over KCSE performance. However, in the 2019 KCSE exam, they regained victory after posting an improved performance.

The school managed a mean score of 9.273, placing it among the best performing schools in Murang’a county.

2020 KCSE TOP CANDIDATE

In the 2020/21 KCSE results announced today, the school defied the ongoing Covid challenges to produce the top candidate nationwide.

Mr. Robinson Simiyu emerged as the best 2020 KCSE scorer, with a mean grade of A having garnered 87.334 points.

CO-CURRICULUM ACTIVITIES

The school not only shines in academics alone. Far from the classwork, students are always encouraged to take part in co-curricular activities.

These include drama, sports, and also music. The school in 2010 carried in drama, after producing the best narrative dubbed “The School Bus”

The presenters are paid huge sums of money to keep us entertained and updated.

In this article, we take a look at some of the highest-paid radio presenters and what each takes home.

Maina Kageni

According to close sources, Kageni could reportedly be the highest-paid presenter. Kageni rakes between Ksh1.5 and Ksh1.8 million monthly.

The presenter hosts the breakfast show at Classic 105, together with his co-host Daniel Ndambuki (Churchill) who goes by the moniker Mwalimu King’ang’i.

How Kageni rose above ranks to be where he is a story you cannot miss. Surprisingly, he never started off as a presenter.

He began as a truck boy in the United Kingdom, before jetting back to Kenya. His radio journey started in Capital FM, then Nation FM, Kiss FM, and later Capital where he works to date.

Daniel Churchill Ndambuki aka Mwalimu King’ang’a

Serving as Maina Kageni’s co-host, the presenter who doubles up as a comedian rakes in Ksh1.2 million monthly.

This is not in addition to what the comedian may be earning as bonuses from his employer.

Joseph Ogidi Alias Gidi

Gidi is a famous radio presenter who runs the Patanisho program on Radio Jambo. He reportedly pockets between Ksh0.6 to Ksh1 million monthly.

Discreet sources indicate that he almost got snatched up by Radio Citizen before his employer topped up his pay.

Willy M Tuva

The Mambo Mseto host earns around Ksh0.8 million on his Mambo Mseto radio program. He also doubles as Mseto East Africa host in Citizen Tv.

Daniel Kithinji Alias Mbusi

He previously worked with Ghetto Radio before landing greener pastures at Radio Jambo.

The presenter is said to be earning about Ksh0.7 million, despite him not having studied any media-related course.

Being a coach is one of those jobs that can leave you depressed if the team you are managing is underperforming. But it is very rewarding when you mould a winning team in both the local and continental assignments. Kenya has produced fairly good football coaches who have gone to coach the national team Harambee Stars.

This writer takes a look at notable coaches in Kenya.

Jacob ‘GHOST’ Mulee

He is one of the most successful coaches Kenya has ever produced. Doubling as a radio presenter, Mulee was firmly on the driver’s seat when Kenya qualified for the 2004 edition of African Cup of Nations (AFCON). This was after a 12 year hiatus from the tournament. Kenya has however never progressed to the knockout stage.

Ghost was reappointed coach in October 2020 but seemingly he had run out of ideas prompting him to quit. He has been replaced by Engin Firat.

Antony Kimani

Coach Kimani took over in an acting capacity as the AFC Leopards Coach, after Andre Mbungo left over the club’s financial woes.

Despite the financial challenges that saw the players go without pay for months, Kimani to marshalled the team to become position six in the 2019/20 FKF Premier League. He has since been replaced by Belgian Patrick Aussems.

Francis Kimanzi

He succeeded Sebastien Migne as Harambee Stars’ Coach. Through his efforts, the team in the past managed to draw against Egypt during the Afcon 2021 qualifiers.

Just like his predecessor Migne, Kimanzi got fired under unclear circumstances in 2020, with the role going back again to Mulee.

Nicholas Muyoti

Kakamega Homeboyz coach Muyoti Nicholas. [Photo/ File]

Out of the 22 matches played by the Kakamega Boys under his supervision, the team has registered 14 wins, made 5 draws, and at least three losses.

The team also completed second during the 2019/20 league.

Zedekiah Otieno

When he succeeded Frank Ouma as the KCB Football team’s coach, he swore to ensure the team wins.

To make true his words, Zedekiah’s efforts have seen the team win five matches consecutively, in the 2020/21 campaign.

Already, the team boasts being at the top, placing it among possible winners for the highly-contested title.

James Nandwa

Coach Nandwa James. [Source/ Courtesy]

Nandwa assembled a team of local players that went to win the CECAFA finals in the past.

Nandwa’s commitment to producing the best players has remained unwavering, despite his numerous dismissals as the coach for various teams.

Hassan Joho is one of the people who don’t mind spending a dime to live luxuriously. He owns two big machines which leave people’s jaw on the floor.

Joho drives a Ferrari estimated to cost Ksh 30,000,000. The Ferrari is a unique model such that only 7,000 of these cars are produced in a year.

A photo of a Ferrari in Kenya

It is best known for having a V-8 engine and its convertible design. This machine is ideal for speed junkies due to its power and acceleration. The car is also elegant and its interior is as comfortable as it gets.

Governor Joho also owns a Bentley Bentayga. This model has a starting price of Ksh 27.2 Million. The car is associated with high performance and speaks of extraordinary luxury.

Bentley Bentayga

Another politician with a taste for luxurious cars former Governor of Nairobi, Mike Sonko. During his tenure as governor, he was best known for showing off in flashy vehicles, jewellery and clothes, always stating how much it cost him to acquire these items.

He owns a Cadillac Escalade which is mostly used in movies by Secret Service Agents and the FBI.

This car has a 10-speed automatic transmission, 483 horsepower, twin- turbocharged and a 6.2-litre V-8 engine.

The price of this car is approximately Ksh 10 million. This cost excludes insurance and shipping costs hence it is hard to determine the exact cost of shipping this gigantic car.

Evans Kidero also tops in this list. He was Sonko’s predecessor as a Governor of Nairobi.

Kidero owns a Ksh40 million Rolls Royce Phantom Phantom. The interior of this beast is bespoke and spectacular.

It has a 6.75-litre capacity and a V-12 engine. The Rolls Royce was even awarded the UK Car of the Year Award under the category, Best Luxury Car, severally.

Last but not least is William Kabogo, former Kiambu Governor and a business mogul. He owns a Ksh 45 Million armoured military car which came in handy during the 2017 General Elections.

He also owns a Jaguar XKR.This car is incredibly fast and makes the ride worthwhile. This is attributed to the V-8 supercharged engine and the sporty design. It has a sumptuous interior and comes with comfort.

It has emerged that Deputy President William Ruto was not among the invitees gracing the State event with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Tanzanian counterpart Ms. Samia Suluhu.

Close sources by DP Ruto’s office indicated that Ruto had was not invited for the State House bilateral talks with Ms. Suluhu.

Further, he is also not among attendants for a night dinner scheduled in memory of the fallen Suluhu’s predecessor ex-President John Pombe Magufuli.

“The DP has not received any invite,” maintained DP Ruto’s Communication Director Emanuel Talam.

While the president was receiving his Tanzanian colleague, DP Ruto was holding a Karen meeting with religious leaders. It is not the first time that DP Ruto has missed a State House event.

In February this year, DP Ruto missed an Executive meeting featuring Cabinet Secretaries, among other state officials.

In 2020 again, the DP skipped a prayer day led by his boss Kenyatta.

DP’s office insisted that his seat was left empty intentionally. The aim was to show how he snubbed the meeting, to which he was never invited.
