Son of late Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla has emotionally recalled his dad’s wish not to be buried in a coffin.

Joel Rabuku Ogolla was speaking at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday,  April 20, he said he was happy that KDF and his family had worked closely to ensure his father was granted his last wish.

Rabuku revealed that his father’s body was placed in a casket made of cheap wood, without proper finishing.

“The casket Mzee is lying in is a very simple mbao ambayo hata haijapigwa randa. I have just been told it cost KSh 6800. Hii mambo mingi ya casket ati mtu mkubwa KSh500,000, KSh1million…this is a body he served the country with and now it is finished,” Rabuku said emotionally.

The young Ogolla said even Jesus was wrapped in a white sheet and placed in a tomb.

“Jesus was wrapped in a sheet and put in a tomb. Right now Mzee is wearing the uniform he donned in official functions but tomorrow we will wrap him in a sheet…extract him from the casket and lay him in the ground so that he can return to dust as quickly as possible, just the way he wanted it,” he continued.

The late general is survived by his wife Aileen and two children, Lorna Omondi and Joel Omondi Rabuku and a daughter-in-law and grandson.

Lorna is head of Operational Excellence, DC Equipment Supply Chain at Google in the US.
