According to the education ministry, over 1.2 million candidates who sat the 2021 KCPE exam will proceed to various secondary schools. This is part of the government’s plan to ensure a 100% transition from primary to secondary school education.
Statistics indicate that a majority of students (726311) will join sub-county schools, 218456 will enrol to county schools while 214960 will proceed to extra county schools. Only 38797 will get a chance in top national schools while others will join special needs school.
Just as it has been in previous years, some schools emerged the top most preferred secondary schools by candidates. According to Education CS George Magoha, such schools received overwhelming selections vis-a-vis their minute classroom capacity. This meant that a majority of the students wouldn’t join such schools even as Magoha blamed the matter on teachers’ failure to offer relevant guidance to the candidates.
