A young businesswoman has allegedly been killed by her husband after a domestic dispute.

Sheila Wegesha was allegedly murdered by her husband Jack Bamboo who is a director of Uriri Light Academy.

The body of Sheila was found in bed at the couple’s Hill View estate home.

Sources told WoK that Sheila’s teenage daughter found the body and raised the alarm.

The body had deep cuts in the throat with blood soaking the bed.

The couple owned JB Liqueur Lounge in Umoja which is popular with Ohangla music fans.

According to reports, the couple had a strained relationship caused by infidelity.

Jack and his wife were well-known in the Ohangla music scene and would share their affection and love in public.

Sheila according to sources was popular on social media and would use platforms like Facebook and TikTok to promote their JB Liqueur Lounge.

The late businesswoman was also an Ohangla dancer and would share videos of dancing on social media.

Her death has led to outrage with netizens demanding justice.

Among Kenyans who have expressed shock over the killings are:

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, actress Sandra Dacha and singer Wuod Fibi.

“I have seen online posts of the murder of a lady, allegedly at the hands of the husband Jack Bamboo. I commend the police for the quick action taken to arrest the alleged culprit,”

“My advice to married couples- if you are angry at your spouse, create physical distance and get a third older and responsible adult to mediate. If you can not work it out, separate or divorce. The law allows both. There is no need to ruin the lives of many including yours,” Millie Odhiambo said.

“Ndoa ikikataa, muachane tu in peace. Kila mtu aendelee na maisha yake. I still can’t understand hii mambo ya Jack Bamboo na Sheila Nyasuba,” Wuod Fibi advised.

The history of women in the legal profession is a vantage point from which to view the progress of women in society, both in Kenya and worldwide. The legal profession is one of the most powerful, well remunerated, and respected in the world.

For this reason, women’s progress in the law is both a standard bearer and an emblem of progress in many cultures. The study and execution of law and justice plays a foundational role in a democracy and is often a stepping stone to higher levels of leadership in business and public life.

By Prudence Minayo

Kenya is full of vibrant political figures who from day to day, continue to dominate news headlines. While some shy away from the glitz and glamour that comes with media presence, others feature dominantly on various platforms addressing issues or just politicking.

In this article, WoK takes a look at the once vocal politicians who disappeared from the public limelight. Their contribution to politics, however, can’t be ignored.

Wakoli Bifwoli

Wakoli was elected to Parliament in 2002 as MP for Bumula Constituency and went on to become a very vocal politician. In 2007, he retained his seat and was among the most popular politicians from Western Kenya.

File image of former Bumula MP Wakoli Bifwoli. |Courtesy| The Star|

He also served as Assistant Minister for Lands under the Grand Coalition Government.

Wakoli lost his seat in 2013 and retired to quiet life in the farm. He rares livestock that includes cattle, goats and chicken.

“After losing the election, I just came back home. I decided to come and do my own business.

“I retreated into farming and I also do some small business like I run a hotel,” he told K24 TV during an interview in 2019.

The former MP boasts of 40 acres of mature trees and has since ventured into indigenous trees. His Engokho Kuku Farm provides supplies for his Kanduyi Highway Hotel, which is popular for chicken delicacy.

“At one time, I was in Kampala and a friend of mine came and said that ‘when I come to Kenya, I’d like to take you Kanduyi Highway for Chicken’. I just laughed and thought, ‘I wish he knew it is mine’,” Wakoli narrated.

The 70-year-old former Minister is seeking the Bumula Consitutency seat on a FORD-Kenya party ticket in the upcoming general elections.

Danson Mungatana

The former Garsen MP is a man missing in action. He has, however, recently declared his bid for the Tana River senate seat on a UDA Party ticket.

Mungatana was among the most vocal, youthful MPs under the Kibaki government.

File image of former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana. |Courtesy| Capital FM|

After losing the 2013 elections, Mungatana has struggled to find his way back to national politics. Known as the “crocodile eater”, the former MP was among the founding members of NARC-Kenya which later rebranded to The National Alliance (TNA) that sponsored President Uhuru Kenyatta to State House in 2013.

Mungatana has had his fair share of challenges, having been roped into a number of scandals in the recent past including conspiracy to commit fraud.

In 2018, he lost Ksh76 million to “wash-wash” conmen from West Africa who had promised to multiply his money and make the former Assistant Minister for Medical Services a billionaire.

Kembi Gitura

He served as the MP for Kiharu Constituency between 2003 to 2007. Kembi was elected Murang’a County senator in 2013 but lost the seat to Irungu Kang’ata in 2017.

The politician was then appointed chairman at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) until 2021 when he was removed following a major scandal that rocked the state agency.

File image of former Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura. |Courtesy| The Star|

President Kenyatta appointed him Chairperson of the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA), a position he held until his resignation in February 2022.

He is seeking to contest the Murang’a County senate seat in the upcoming August 2022 general elections.

Margaret Wanjiru

Margaret Wanjiru is known for her role as a Minister of God. She was ordained as pastor in 1997 before being ordained bishop in 2002. She became well known and amassed a huge congregation in her church.

In 2007, she successfully contested the Starehe Constituency seat dethroning Maina Kamanda. She defended her seat in the 2010 by-election. She remained quite for a long time after failing secure a seat in the 2013 general eletions.

Omingo Magara

The former Mugirango South MP is a man missing in action since losing his seat in 2013. Magara retreated to farm life and runs one of the best dairy farms in the country.

Millie Odhiambo

Born in 1966, she trained as a lawyer before going on to become one of the fiercest female politicians in the country. She was first nominated to Parliament in 2007 by the ODM party and later was elected MP for Suba North in 2013. The politician is known for making audacious remarks and stands, unafraid of the consequences.

While she would often make headlines in the past for one thing after the other, she seems to be working behind the scenes these days.

Rachel Shebesh

Rachel was elected Nairobi Woman Representative in 2013 but failed to retain her seat in 2017 when she lost to Esther Passaris. She is known for speaking her mind and championing for women’s rights.

Depsite her appointment as Chief Administrative Secretary for the Ministry of Gender, she has remained relatively quite.

She surfaced recently when she led protests in Nairobi alongside Passaris, Nairobi Governoe Anne Kananu, among other leaders. They were protesting the insults hurled by politicians at former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

By Prudence Minayo

Millie Akoth Odhiambo Mabona is a seasoned Kenyan politician known for her outspoken personality. She is a vocal member of the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) and a staunch supporter of Raila Amolo Odinga-the party leader. From a very young age, Millie knew that she wanted to be a politician and worked towards achieving her goals.

For more than 10 years, she has served as a member of parliament in Kenya. She is proudly half luo and half Suba. Millie is passionate about fighting for the rights of women and children and is not afraid to call out any person she feels is undermining them. For eight years (2000 to 2008), she was the founder and director of the Cradle Children’s Foundation. The organization was working towards improving the rights of children in the legal system.

Age

The seasoned politician was born on 1st November 1966.

Family

Millie is the fourth born in a family of eight children. She was born in Homa Bay to Damaris and Harrison Odhiambo. Unfortunately, a boating accident killed her father in 1973, a year before she vied for the Mbita parliamentary seat. This death is what ignited the political spark within her and she knew politics was what she would pursue.

Marriage

The MP is married to a Zimbabwe national named Magugu Mabona. The two met online and got married on 14th February 2006. In a 2010 interview with The Standard, she revealed that her husband was not intimidated with her success. Their long distance relationship has worked out for them so far and she has a step child but no biological children.

Education

The member of parliament attended Homa Bay Primary School then proceeded to St. Francis Girls High School. She then completed her high school education at Limuru Girls High School.

In 1986, she joined the University of Nairobi where she pursued and successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Law Degree. Later on, she pursued further studies in Sweden, the United States of America and Italy.

Politics

Millie supported the Orange Democratic Movement and in 2007 the party nominated her as Member of Parliament for Mbita Constituency which is currently referred to as Suba North constituency.

In the 2013 general elections, she was elected as the Suba North Member of Parliament under the ODM party.

The Kenyan media has referred to her as outspoken, no- nonsense, courageous and controversial among other adjectives. She is known for expressing her views without mincing words and has even called out a number of politicians whom she feels have overstepped their boundaries/ have opposing views. Recently, she was accused of allegedly heckling the deputy president William Ruto but she denied this. This was during the launch of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) at Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi.

“ I was answering his questions because he was asking us questions about what should be done, and I was basically reminding him he is the deputy president and I should be asking him the questions he was asking and not vice versa, ” she said during an interview with KTN News.

It is not the first time the MP has differed with a politician or expressed her views openly. At one time, she stormed Parliament demanding the proceedings be stopped on a point of order, in a different incident she almost stripped naked in parliament while opposing how they were being treated and in the past she has set Twitter On fire by attacking president Uhuru Kenyatta.

By Prudence Minayo

Political leaders are called honourable for a reason although most don’t deserve such a title. Legislators exchanging blows in public or inciting the citizenry to engage in acts of violence is not news in Kenya. The electorate is seemingly keen on electing brawn over brains and this is manifest on how the country is run. This writer takes a look at leaders who are synonymous with violence.

Mike ‘Mbuvi’ Sonko

Former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is a man under siege courtesy of his natty shenanigans. Apart from his untoward behavior of recording conversations held in private and confidence, the ex-county boss is known for using unsavoury words on his real and perceived enemies. He has used words not befitting a man of his status. Mbuvi is now cooling his heels in Gigiri Police Station and his bravado was badly exposed when he cried during his court appearance. The leader is also known for his violent streak. He has punched walls and slapped a man in public for whatever reason.

Ferdinand Waititu

The ex-Kiambu governor is now an ordinary Kenyan trying to win favor with the powers that be. Waititu has had a checkered past. In 2012-when he was Embakasi MP- he made remarks targeting the Maa community. In an audio that was played in leading media houses, the Waititu was heard saying:

“We don’t want to see any Maasai here in Kayole,”

“And to all people who employed Maasai, to sack them with immediate effect.”

Babu Owino

The Embakasi East Constituency Babu Owino would not be in any leadership position if his character is anything to go by. He nearly shot dead DJ Evolve-who happened to be his friend-after an altercation at B-Club. Apart from this murderous behavior, Babu is known for his vulgar language.

Aisha Jumwa

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa is one of the most visible politicians in the country. She has made her name for herself as a staunch supporter of deputy president William Ruto. The MP together with her lover were accused with the murder of Gumbao Jola during a by-election in 2019. The legislator is known for using language laced with sexual innuendos in her speeches.

Moses Kuria

Another acerbic politician who is not supposed to be anywhere near power. He has in the past captured on camera inciting youths to use machetes to slash those opposing the National Youth Service program. At one time, Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo she was boxed on the eye by the Gatundu South MP.

Simba Arati

The Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati is a man who seems to be quick with his fist if the ‘beating’ he meted on his South Mugirango counterpart Silvanus Osoro is anything to go by. The two legislators squared it out during a funeral service. Read separate story:

Silvanus Osoro

He jumped to the podium to cut short a speech by Simba Arati who was attacking deputy president William Ruto. A near full blown fight nearly erupted if it was not for security that calmed the two parliamentarians. This is not the first time the two legislators are engaging in acts of violence.

Millie Odhiambo

The fiery Mbita MP is known for assertiveness especially when it comes to defending ODM leader Raila Odinga. On the flipside, the MP behavior can be unbecoming. During the chaotic debate on contentious Security Laws Bill Millie was among legislators who attacked the late Joyce Laboso. In the ensuing melee, Moses Kuria hit her. And it did not end there. She reportedly stripped as she claimed on her social media pages.

Part of her post read:

“When they tried to undress me I completed the process for them…I cannot and will not be intimidated using my sexuality…

Millie has in the past abused president Uhuru Kenyatta calling him very stupid.

Oscar Sudi

How he ended up in parliament tells you a lot about Kenyans. The Kapseret MP is vulgar and lacks common decency when it comes to attacking his detractors. His insults directed at Mama Ngina were in bad taste and not fit to be published in this respectable blog.
