Kenyan banker Cheruiyot Kirui who went missing on Mt Everest has been found dead.

Kirui had gone missing together with his Sherpa guide.

The whereabouts of his Sherpa guide are still unknown.

According to the Himalayan Times, rescuers from Seven Summit Treks (SST) discovered the body of Cheruiyot Kirui from a few metres below the summit point of Mt Everest.

Kirui was attempting to climb Mt Everest without supplemental oxygen.

The Kenyan’s guide Nawang Sherpa had earlier communicated that Kirui showed abnormal behaviour.

“Nawang had last communicated with the base camp officials from Bishop Rock that Kirui refused to return and even consume bottled oxygen but showed abnormal behaviour,” a Base Camp official said.

“Climbers who are on summit push today have been trying to locate Nawang,” the official added.

Kirui is a banker working with KCB and has been documenting his preparation to climb Everest without supplemental oxygen.

The banker had made an update on Facebook hours before he went missing detailing his last preparation.

“Nothing exciting has happened since the last update. So no thriller today,”

“It’s been 10 Basecamp days. Days of inactivity except eating, sleeping, watching the weather and a few nearby hikes to keep the body honest. Such idle days aren’t good for business, many stories playing rounds, others clet to shake the roots of my faith,”

“And not being a particularly brave person, some withered me a little until I’d find time to myself and rebuild my defences a review of the logic and science in support of this attempt. So you can figure how out exciting it is to get back to action,” he posted.

Kirui also shared that he had invested a lot in the climbing attempt and he expected to be bankrupt soon.
