Geoffrey Otieno Okuto is a former bodyguard and driver to Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa.
He thrust into the limelight in October 2019, when he was first charged with murder of Gumbao Jola alongside the MP.
Jola was an uncle of ODM politician Reuben Mwambize Katana. He was shot when Jumwa and Okuto disrupted a meeting at Katana’s home during the October 2019 Ganda by-election campaigns.
Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji approved murder charges against the two, and the case has been ongoing.
The two appeared before a Mombasa Court on July 8, 2021. Forensics have since cleared Jumwa in the killing of Jola, leaving Okuto as the main suspect.

Details of Okuto’s hometown or education remain unavailable to the general public, but he had long been a part of Jumwa’s security detail.
Marriage
Okuto is married and is a father of two. His wife was fully aware of his romantic relationship with Jumwa.
Affair with Jumwa
The Malindi MP hired Okuto after the government withdrew her security detail. He served as her personal assistant, bodyguard and driver.
Their relationship later evolved into a romance as the two started living together in her palatial homes in Malindi and Lavington.
According to court documents, the two have been lovers for 6 years. Okuto’s wife is reportedly aware of the affair between the two.
Jumwa separated with her husband 20 years ago and for the last six, was romantically involved with his bodyguard.
When they were first charged, Jumwa’s daughter was used as surety for Okuto’s bail.

Betrayal
On July 8, 2021, it was widely reported that Jumwa had decided to withdraw the lawyers she had hired to represent Okuto in the murder trial.
The lawyers, Jared Magolo, Cliff Ombeta, Danstan Omari and Shadrack Wamboi told the court that they received firm instructions from the MP to withdraw Okuto’s surety bond.
“Mr Okuto was served with the application seeking to withdraw the surety, and he is aware (of it),” Omari told the court.
The bodyguard pleaded with the court to allow him more time to regroup following the turn of events.
“Since Jumwa has instructed the lawyers not to represent me, I ask the court to give me more time to look for an advocate. I request for the court’s indulgence,” he said.
The court was adjourned after hearing his request.
