He is touted as the greatest marathoner of the modern era. Behind his some contagious smile, is a man who has won 10 of the 11 marathons he has entered. And Eliud Kipchoge doesn’t just win marathons; he has been breaking world records in his wake. It did not come as a surprise when he was named the 2018 IAAF male athlete of the year. Kipchoge broke the world record in the 2018 Berlin Marathon with an impressive time of 2 hours 1 minute and 39 seconds, the greatest improvement since 1967.
Eliud Kipchoge Biography
The athlete was raised by a single parent. His mother was a teacher-little is known of his father. Kipchoge, who is the youngest in a family of four, sat for his O-levels at Kaptel Secondary School in 1999. His training started early, albeit inadvertently, as he had to run the two miles to school. It was not until 2001 that he met his trainer Patrick Sang. He was only 16 at the time. The world record holder is married to Grace Sugut and the couple is blessed with 3 children. He resides with his family in Eldoret, Kenya.

He went ahead to pocket USD 69,0000 (Ksh7 million) for setting a the World Best time. Then Nike, his primary sponsor, awarded him some more money. Cumulatively his paycheque from the marathon was not less than Kes25 million.

He entered the 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018 edition of the Berlin. He won three of the four races. In these four races he made over $200,000 (Kes20,000,000) exclusive of bonuses.
