Joshua Chepkwony: Reclusive Billionaire Owning Jamii Telecommunications “FAIBA” And KASS Media

Jamii Telecommunications

CK Joshua is the Founder and owner of Jamii Telecommunications, abbreviated as JTL – a company that primarily specializes in offering reliable internet connection to residential places, offices and corporate companies.

The company was instrumental in the installation of undersea fiber optic cable after paying Sh5 billion in order to get the license. The privately owned Kenyan telecommunication service provider offers both broadband and mobile services under the brand name ‘Faiba.’

The company was launched in 2016 with the vision of providing innovative communication and digital services therein connecting Kenya for increased productivity and sustainable growth.

Since its inception, the company has made major strides and achieved great innovations goals which include becoming the first company to deploy 700 MHZ mobile network in Kenya, first VOLTE mobile service provider in Kenya, first 100 percent free on-net voice service for life in Kenya, first to deploy 100 percent fiber optic network infrastructure in Kenya, first to deliver 1000 mbps capacity network to both home or business in Kenya, first commercial and residential FTTx service in Kenya and first to deliver 1mbps broadband internet for Ksh 1000 in Kenya.

Some of the products and services offered by the company include Faiba mobile, Faiba fixed, Faiba SD WAN and Faiba Konnect. The company has employed over 300 people who are in the company’s monthly payroll.

Jamii Milling Company

On May 11th 2015, Joshua Chepkwony launched a milling company known as Jamii Milling Company. The company which was built at a total cost of Ksh 1 billion has a capacity to process 3,000 bags of maize per day.

The milling plant which sits on an eight-acre piece of land is located just 15 kilometers northeast of Eldoret town in Sergoit trading center.

The company mainly focuses on production of maize flour, wheat flour, poultry, animal and fish feeds.

The company’s maize flour which retails under the brand name ‘Jamii flour’ is one of the best and most-preferred maize flours in Kenya. The company has a storage capacity of over 50,000 tons of maize and 40,000 tons of wheat.

The milling machines were imported from Buhler – a Switzerland-based firm to enhance the quality of production.

The company has heavily invested in Systems that are completely compliant with International Occupation Health and Safety Requirements as well as any national and international HACCP food principles.

Kass Media Group

CK Joshua is the founder of Kass International – a media entity that runs a chain of Radio Station and TV Station that mainly broadcasts in the Kalenjin vernacular language.

The media service was founded in 2005 with the aim of reaching the communities living in the large Rift Valley regions.

Joshua Chepkwony wanted to create a platform where the Kalenjin sub tribes could discuss, share ideas, be informed, communicate and get news in a language they best understand. He believes that an individual’s native language is instrumental in shaping the person’s identity and general view of life.

The media entity runs the Kass FM radio station and the famous Kass TV channel that is available in all free to air networks.

Sergoit Holdings Limited

The billionaire is also in the Real estate sector holding a majority and controlling shares in Sergoit Holdings Limited where he is also the Chairman of the company.

The company first came to the public eye when it was revealed that it is constructing a Ksh 40 billion golf and wildlife resort in the outskirts of Eldoret Town, Uasin Gishu County.

The project sits in a 3,100 acre piece of land and will contain 2,000 luxurious villas, three 18-hole championship golf courses, a shopping mall, a five-star hotel, a private hospital and an indoor airstrip.
