Kenya infrastructure development is second to none in the region. The government has been keen on planning and constructing futuristic modern cities such as Konza city in Ukambani.

As the government continues to plan, well oiled investors have already set up modern cities like Tatu City and the Northlands City owned by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family.

Another city that is creating buzz in Eldoret town and beyond is Sergoit Golf Resort which is estimated to cost up to Ksh 40 billion upon its completion.

In this article, WoK brings you all you need to know about Sergoit Golf and wildlife resort – the first sports city in East Africa.

Sergoit Golf and Wildlife Resort

Sergoit Golf and Wildlife resort is a development project that is hinged on the theme of sports, luxury living, leisure and recreation. The project sits on 3,000 acres of land just 25 kilometers north east of Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County in the North Rift region.

The singular defining feature of the property is Sergoit Hill – a tree covered rocky outcrop with a footprint of about 500 acres dominating the flat landscape.

According to the company’s website, the property is a sprawling ranch which serves also as a wildlife sanctuary and is home to the Rothschild Giraffe – one of a priority species in wildlife conservation.

Other animals in the area include antelopes, duikers and a large variety of birds. On a clear day you can see Mt Kenya to the East and Mt Elgon to the West. To the south you can also see the undulating Nandi hills and the expansive Cherangany hills to the North.

The luxurious project will include 2,000 villas, three 18-hole championship golf courses, a five-star hotel, a modern shopping mall, a conference center, a private hospital, retirement homes and a private hospital.

The project is expected to be constructed in four phases each costing up to Ksh 10 billion. The first phase will involve construction of 626 modern and luxurious villas located near the Sergoit Hill – a tree covered rocky outcrop with about 400 acres dominating the flat space.

The project is being undertaken by Sergoit Holdings Limited – a company closely associated with Jamii telecommunications and Kass Media billionaire Joshua Chepkwony.

The project has already received a major financial boost from Co-operative bank and Kenya Commercial Bank who have put in place mortgage deals for interested buyers.

“We have already sold 81 plots and we expect this to shoot up now that we have officially broken ground. Sergoit Golf and Wildlife Resort will be the first city to be set up in Kenya since independence. It will be a major boost to tourism in the Rift valley and western regions,” Chepkwony, who is the chairman of the project, revealed during an interview with Nation Media Group.

Chepkwony went ahead to reveal that the project will have high-speed fiber connectivity as part of the infrastructure.

Private developers can acquire plots in the project at a price of between Ksh2 million and Ksh5 million and put up their buildings in conformity with the master plan.

All buildings in the project will be constructed according to six pre-approved house designs and shareholders will enjoy absolutely free membership to the amazing golf club and access to the Club house.

Sergoit Holdings Limited has already appointed a company that is responsible for building and managing physical infrastructure including roads, power, water, garbage and drainage systems among other things.

Some of the amazing facilities will include scenic and fitness trails, amazing rock climbing spots, athletic training tracks and a captivating view of wildlife.
