The growing Kenyan media and entertainment industry continues to pay out big time for celebrities worth their salt. However, despite the stable and in other cases, huge earnings, they have in the recent past been quick to establish their own businesses in a bid to convert their huge following and influence into loyal clients.
In this article, WoK takes a look at some of the businesses owned by female Kenyan celebrities in the beauty and fashion industry.
Betty Kyalo
Betty Mutei Kyalo is a renowned journalist who has previously worked as a News Anchor for Standard Media Group owned KTN and Mediamax owned K24 TV. After her successful career in the media world, Betty decided to venture into business where she has heavily invested in the beauty industry. She is the founder and director of Flair by Betty – a salon and beauty spa located in Rose Avenue, Kilimani.
She also owns Aftershave by flair – a barbershop and express spa located in Upperhill. She also owns BK Closet – a fashion shop that specializes in celebrity styling.
Vera Sidika
She is a well-known socialite, fashion model and Instagram influencer. She gained popularity through gigs a video vixen and model. Her curvaceous body earned her appearances in entertainment joints such as nightclubs, and with the entry of social media, her fame grew further thanks to her steamy posts.
Aside from her flashy lifestyle, she has been keen to invest her money in the beauty industry. She owns Vera Sidika Beauty Parlour located at Western Heights Building in Westlands. She also owns Veetox – a beauty product that helps ladies tackle belly fat and accentuate their hips.
Vera is also the proprietor of VS Spa – a beauty spa located along 3rd Avenue in Nyali, Mombasa.
Wahu Kagwi
The veteran singer boasts a career in the music industry spanning over 15 years. She is married to a legendary musician Nameless.
Apart from her successful career in the musical scene, Wahu has also invested in the beauty industry. She is the founder and owner of Afro Siri salon located at Krishna Centre in Westlands. The salon attracts high-end clients such as corporate honchos and popular celebrities.
Lilian Muli
The renowned journalist has created a brand for herself in the media industry. She is currently a news anchor at Royal Media Services (RMS) owned Citizen TV where she hosts the popular Friday Night 9.00 pm prime news.
The News Anchor has also heavily invested in the beauty industry. She is the owner of La Modelle – a luxury unisex salon located at Woodvale Grove, Sound Plaza in Westlands, Nairobi.
Michelle Ntalami
The model and fashion influencer rode to popularity through her Instagram page which has over 460,000 followers. She is the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marini naturals – a Kenyan organic hair-care line designed to celebrate women’s natural kinks and curls.
Marini is the first Kenyan hair care product line designed for women with natural and afro-textured hair.
Terryanne Chebet
Terryanne is a veteran journalist with prior stints at Citizen TV, CNBC Africa, CCTV Africa and KBC. She is the founder of Scarlet Digital – a company that specializes in marketing, public relations and brand strategy.
Aside from the world of media and communication, Terryanne has also invested in the beauty industry. She is the Founder and owner of Keyara Organics – a natural skincare company that mainly produces afro-centred skincare products.
Huddah Monroe
The popular socialite and influencer has created a brand for herself through her Instagram page which has over 2.3 million followers. She is the founder and owner of Huddah cosmetics – an online store that sells makeup equipment such as eyelashes and lipsticks among many others.
She is also the owner of Rich beauty – a company that produces skincare products.
