George Magoha: Education And Stellar Career Of Tough-Talking Ex-Education CS

Former Education CS George Magoha has joined Maseno University as the Professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine.

In a statement on Tuesday, January 17, the institution’s Director of Public Relations Dr Owen McOnyango noted that the appointment takes effect immediately.

While Magoha has been known to many only as a CS, he boasts a stellar career in the medical world, in this article, WoK looks at the same.

Education

Magoha attended Dr David Livingstone Primary School, before joining Starehe Boys’ Centre and School where he completed his O-Level studies.

He then attended Strathmore School for his A-Level education from where he graduated with a High School Diploma.

After graduating from high school, Magoha won a scholarship to study human medicine at the University of Lagos in Nigeria.

He also studied at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and the University College Hospital in Lagos and Ibadan respectively.

Magoha later joined Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School in United Kingdom.

He also trained in Executive Management at Stanford University. 

Career

Magoha started his career in surgery at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital where he was an intern and rose through the ranks to become Senior Resident and Clinical Lecturer in Surgery.

He served as a lecturer at the institution as well as a Consultant Surgeon in various leading hospitals in  Nigeria.

Magoha later joined the University of Nairobi as a lecturer in Urological Surgery and rose through the ranks to become a full Professor of Surgery.

He also served in various positions at the university from chairperson of the Academic Department of Surgery to Dean of the School of Medicine, Principal of the College of Health Sciences, Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration and Finance to Vice-Chancellor.

While he was the VC, Magoha also served as the Professor of Surgery at the institution’s College of Health Sciences.

He left UoN following his appointment chairperson of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

Magoha has also previously served as chairperson of the Kenya Association of Urological Surgeons (KAUS).

He is also a member of British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) and Société Internationale d’Urologie (SIU) among others.
