Kenya is a country with deep roots in religion and when it comes to churches one is spoilt for choice. There are so many pastors, reverends and bishops in Kenya, each with their own unique message and way of delivering it. Pastor Paul Kuria, popularly known as Man Kush, is one among the many men of the cloth. The good man of God oversees the Home of Glory Joy Ministry at Blue Springs hotel.
The famous pastor is known for saying it as it is and he is humorous to boot. In fact, at one point he sparked a debate online by saying he will welcome politicians to bring generous contributions to his church and doesn’t care where they got the money.
“ Saying the politicians should not bring money in church is lying to yourself, because to me, a church is like a hospital, where everyone goes so they can get healed,” the pastor said. (source: standard e-paper)
Whether or not people agree with his message, he will put it out there.
Age
His exact age is not available but in a past interview with Citizen TV, he said he was over 50.
Early Life
Man Kush is an open book. He doesn’t shy away from his past. The pastor has admitted to having multiple partners in his past life and went on to state that he must be having many babies out there. He said:
I had so many girls and none of them came and said they have my babies, but I know they are there. I am sure when I die, there will be so many women who will claim I am their baby daddy.
Family
The Home of Glory Joy Ministry overseer is married to Esther Kuria. The two got married in 1984 and have three children, two boys and a girl. In an interview with Joey Muthengi and Willis Raburu on Citizen TV’s Daybreak, three years ago, he said his youngest is 25-years-old. One of the boys is married and his girl is also married.
Career
Man Kush has been a pastor for over 30 years. In a recent interview with Dr. King’ori on NTV, he revealed he started his first church at Githurai by selling his car. He was an evangelist and did so many crusades before becoming a pastor. He has grown to become a popular pastor and a much sought after master of ceremony. The pastor ministers to over 3,000 members and once admitted in an interview that he healed a woman with HIV.
“ She came up to me and told me she had HIV and from what I know, HIV has no cure. So I just raised my hand, because I was already done with my crusade in Karatina I said ‘Father in the name of Jesus heal this one if it’s possible’ and I said Amen,” said the pastor in an interview with Radio Jambo.
“I met her two years later and she was healed. She had faith and I spoke the word and God healed,” he added.
However, the pastor has once revealed that praying for people is not his main concern as long as he has preached the word. After all, all he needs to do is teach people how to pray so that they can pray for their own needs.
Number of Churches
Man Kush has a total of 36 churches under his ministry. He has trained pastors who oversee the day to day running of the churches.
Away from preaching
Apart from being a pastor, the man wears many other hats. He is a vernacular singer and broker.
They say “Laughter is the best medicine,” and the preacher does not disappoint in this. He is also a comedian and has appeared on the Churchill show during numerous episodes. They met (him and Churchill) during Mzee Ojwang’s funeral where Man Kush was pastoring. Lastly, Paul Kuria is also an MC (Master of Ceremony).
