Cranes Haven resort is a gem of Trans-Nzoia County. It is a luxurious establishment that is located 24 Kilometres from Kitale CBD on the Kitale-Cherangany road.

It sits on a tranquil environment that offers picturesque view of the most important physical features of North Western Kenya: These are the Cherangany Hills and Mount Elgon. The facility is just an hour drive from Saiwa Swamp National Park which is home to the endangered sitatunga, an aquatic antelope.

The name Cranes Haven is thought to be derived from the fact that the location of the resort is home to hundreds of birds. Importantly, the hotel is ideal for bird watching enthusiasts as they will wake up to the musical chirping of birds.

Facilities and outdoor experience

Cranes Haven is the ideal place to go because it provides a variety of services that may be tailored to your preferences. These are: luxurious accomodation, outdoor activities like archery, and a cutting-edge meeting room, to name a few.

They also offer cycling, horseback riding, heated pool, bar and restaurant. The resort also has a spa that is nestled in a lush green bamboo plantation.

Stately accomodation 

Its 5 tented camps are a magnificent piece of architecture; they are raised above the ground and have spacious porches with hammocks that offer the best of unwinding and relaxation.

The rooms come with a queen size bed that has lampshades. They are also decorated with chandeliers and offer a hardwood work space.

Bathrooms are designed to give visitors the value for their money. They have a clawfoot bathtub, heated shower, full length mirror and towel rack.

According to a 2019 blog post, it costs approximately  Ksh 10000 for a night accommodation for single and 15000 for double. However, one is advised to first contact the resort prior to booking.

Ownership

Both Cranes Haven and its ‘sister’ Sirwo Resort are owned by the family of Zipporah Kittony, a retired politician who was known for her advocacy for women’s right. Her son, Kiprono Kittony is a serial businessman who has widely invested in media (Radio Africa Group) and agriculture.

Kiprono Kittony holds two degrees: A Bachelors of Commerce and Bachelors of Law degrees from University of Nairobi.
