Personal life

Nick name: Salvador, Man from Ombokolo

He ranks among the best-if not the best-comedians in Uganda and by extension Africa. Patrick Salvador has a special way he weaves his story lines leaving the audience in stitches. He tells his jokes in English which gives him an edge over his contemporaries in the region who are more versed in Swahili. Salvador is also a renowned master of ceremonies, radio personality, actor and a father. Here is his journey to the top of his career.

Age

Salvador was born on 14th, February 1985 to Mr and Mrs Dawa Lawrence in the West Nile, Uganda. The comedian was raised in a family of seven children and spent most of his childhood in Koboko district.

Education

Salvador’s journey to education started from Our lady of Africa Nursery and primary school. He later joined Kiswa Primary school from where he completed his primary education.  St Charles Lwanga then admitted him for his Ordinary Level and then later proceeded to Bishop Cypriano Kihangire in Luzira, Kampala for his Advanced level.

Patrick later joined Makerere University and pursued Bachelors of Science in Telecommunication Engineering.

Salvador, the Engineer turned Comedian

Since childhood, Patrick wanted to be an Engineer. However he faced conflicting loyalty when most of his friends in high school took part in Comedy skits. He therefore requested to be included on the School Music Dance and Drama Club where he started practicing comedy.

Family

Patrick Salvador’s career

Patrick Idringi got his stage name “Salvador” after cracking a joke about a girl who had dropped her groceries at a Supermarket. After seeing him, she ran to him screaming the name Salvador. In a South American Telenovela called Second Chance which was popular with many Ugandans, there was an actor called Salvador.

In 2009, Multichoice Africa organized a standup comedy competition in Uganda and Salvador chose to participate in the competition and he emerged second, a fair position that won him a job. He was later employed by capital Fm, 91.3, a Kampala based radio station in 2011. Salvador was incharge the Overdrive show

Salvador later resigned from the radio business and concentrated on his anticipated comedy shows where he joined fellow comedians Alex Muhangi, Kenneth Kimuli aka Pablo, Anne Kansiime and Daniel Omara. Controversies

The Salvador, Muhangi feud, after announcing his weekly comedy show in December, 2019 called Just Comedy at Kingdom Hall Kampala, many people concluded that the show was directly meant to compete with his fellow Comedian Alex Muhangi’s weekly show hailed as Comedy Store.

The two “brothers” used to work together while Alex Muhangi was still hosting his Comedy store at Diners Lounge in Bukoto but disagreed along the way.

Since their differences seemed public, the fans thought that the grudge was still on until when Alex Muhangi attended one of Salvador’s shows at Kingdom Hall Kampala where he was given the VIP treatment with the other three people who escorted him.

“There’s no problem between me and Muhangi, it’s true that we previously had grudges but they were later resolved and when I started my own comedy show but that didn’t mean I was after competing Alex Muhangi,” Patrick Salvador said.

“People’s problem is that you can never know what they want, therefore when you encounter differences with anyone they think it doesn’t end, understand that there is no bad blood between us,” he added. However, Patrick continuously detached himself from rumours of enmity and said that their shows take place on different days, possess varied concepts, goals and attract different classes of revellers.
