In the face of Kenya’s persistently high unemployment rates, many individuals who have completed various courses in universities, colleges, and other institutions are now turning to unconventional means to survive the challenging economic climate gripping the nation.

One such individual is a young accounting graduate, known as @Gesonso1, who recently took to social media to share an inspiring narrative born out of a series of job rejections.

In a heartwarming tweet that quickly gained traction, @Gesonso1 proudly displayed a photograph from his graduation day, radiating hope and confidence for a prosperous future.

Yet, life had other intentions.

Following multiple fruitless endeavors to secure his envisioned career path, he found himself at a crossroads, questioning the trajectory of his professional aspirations.

Faced with adversity, @Gesonso1 decided to seize control of his fate and channel his skills and determination into a burgeoning business venture.

He embarked on the journey of selling smokies and boiled eggs in a bustling bus park.

“How it started and how it is going” juxtaposition, featuring side-by-side images of his graduation day attire and his current role as an entrepreneur.

The post drew an outpouring of support from social media users, who lauded his resilience and applauded his decision to forge a unique path.

In a subsequent tweet, @Gesonso1 expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support and astutely seized the opportunity to promote his enterprise.

“Pass by my stall and promote me,” he urged.

Across social media platforms, Kenyans rallied behind his tenacity, commending him for setting aside any notions of pride to earn a livelihood.

One user aptly pointed out, “Hakuna kazi ndogo. Heshimu kazi and you’ll never be disappointed.” The sentiment resonated, as fellow Kenyans shared their stories and words of encouragement.

“Bro, I love this! Keep the consistency, be creative on service delivery, and cultivate good relationships with clients. More opportunities will come in business. I started the same way like you, and the rest is history. Napenda youths wenye hujituma sana. Nitakutafuta nikule smokie,” commented Edwin Nganyi.

Another Kenyan, Dennis, humorously admitted, “Nimekula karibu nimalize nimalize doh zangu hapo,” further attesting to the undeniable appeal of @Gesonso1’s offerings.

This enterprising young graduate’s story represents a larger struggle, as he joins the ranks of the 77 percent of Kenya’s population grappling with the burden of unemployment.

According to figures released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), this stark reality persisted over a four-year period up to 2022.
