The richest people in Africa list has over the years been dominated by the same faces. The only notable shift is the Aliko Dangote being dislodged as the richest man in Africa by Johann Rupert. 

Here is the list of the richest people in Africa as of 2024, the institution they attended and their net worth as compiled by WoK.

Johann Rupert & Family-net worth $10.3 billion

He is the richest man in Africa as of 2024 according to Forbes.com. He attended Paul Roos Gymnasium, a public school for boys in Stellenbosch in Western Cape. The school was founded on 1 March 1866 and it’s the 12th oldest school in the country.

Johann Rupert went on to attend the University of Stellenbosch where he studied economics and company law. He dropped out of university to pursue his interest in business. 

Aliko Dangote-net worth $9.5 billion

The Nigerian national has dominated the cement and sugar sector in Africa. He attended Sheikh Ali Kumasi Madrasa before joining Capital High School in Kano and later on the Government College, Birnin Kudu. Dangote graduated from Al-Azhar University in Cairo with a bachelor’s degree in business studies and administration. 

Nicky Oppenheimer & Family-net worth $8.3 billion

The third richest man in Africa was a student at Ludgrove School, Harrow School and Christ Church and Oxford where he studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

Nassef Sawiris-net worth $7.4 billion

For his secondary education, the fourth richest man in Africa attended Deutsche Evangelische Oberschule Kairo before proceeding to the University of Chicago where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1982. 

Abdulsamad Rabiu-Net worth $5.9 billion 

He attended Federal Government College in Kano before he proceeded to the Capital University Columbus, Ohio in the United States. 

Nathan Kirsh-Net Worth $5.8 billion

He attended Potchefstroom Boys High and later on at the University of the Witwatersrand. He holds a honorary doctorate from the University of Swaziland.

Issad Rebrab & Family-net worth $4.6 billion

Details of where he went to school remain sketchy. He studied at a modest vocational school. 

Mohamed Mansour-Net worth $3.6 billion

He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from North Carolina State University, USA. Mansour has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Auburn University. 

Naguib Sawiris-Net worth $3.3 billion

The billionaire has a diploma from German Evangelical School in Giza and another Diploma of Mechanical Engineering. He has a Master’s degree in Technical Administration from ETH Zurich. 

Mike Adenuga-net worth $3.1 billion

The tenth richest man in Africa studied Business Administration at Northwestern State University, Alva in Oklahoma. He also has a Master’s degree at Pace University, New York, majoring in Business Administration.
