A Kenyan nurse in Sweden has recaptured a Councillor seat in the Scandinavian country.

Daniel Mwaura Njuguna has been recalled to be a Councillor in the Botkyrka Kommun municipality.

He had lost his seat during the 2022 municipal elections in Sweden.

Mwaura first became a Councillor in the 2010 elections in Botkyrka Kommun and was re-elected in 2014 and 2018 ballots.

According to KBC, after a heartbreaking loss in 2022, he made a triumphant return in March 2024.

“My party suffered some infighting and some of our elected councillors left the party, but not their seats. We found ourselves Social Democrats in opposition for the first time in many years in my municipality,” Mwaura said.

Mwaura has urged Kenyan youths to consider Sweden as a destination for job opportunities.

Like the Middle East, Australia or the U.S., Mwaura said Sweden and other Scandinavian countries have untapped job opportunities.

Mwaura said the language barrier has been a stumbling block for many Kenyan youths in the country.

“The language barrier prevents our people from thinking about the opportunities here in Scandinavian countries, but it’s easy to learn European languages if you want and are willing,” he said.

Mwaura still works as a nurse despite his political position in Sweden.

He is to Pennina Ngula from Kitui County, Mwaura is a father of five; Brian Koikai, Jessica Nyambura, Mike Njuguna, Jayden Muchiri and Bobby Njuguna Mwaura.

Mwaura attended Kijabe Boys High School where he was a former deputy head boy in 1992.

He became the chairman of the Organisation of African Asylum Seekers in Sweden in 1994.

From 1997 and 2005, he was the secretary general of the then Kenya Human Rights group based in Sweden.
