Nairobi and Mombasa business owners and peaceful protesters have armed themselves to defend shops and businesses from looters.
According to the business owners, hired goons have taken advantage of peaceful protests to steal from pedestrians and motorists.
The goons have also raided shops and broken in to loot goods.
According to Africa Uncensored, Immaculate, a protester came to the streets of Nairobi to demonstrate peacefully.
However, she found herself picking up a baton to protect people and businesses from goons who had allegedly been sent to steal from them during the Occupy CBD Tuesday protests.
In Mombasa, a businessman was seen protecting his life and business from marauding goons.
The businessman had to remove his firearm and fire several times to disperse the thugs.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, said the Qaffee Point Hotel owner shot and injured two people at around 1.30 pm.
The DCI noted that the civilian firearm holder was then disarmed and is presently being held in lawful custody.
Protests in the coastal city of Mombasa have turned ugly after several people were reported shot.
Protests on Tuesday, July 2 spiralled into chaos as looters raided shops and hotels.
According to sources, several have been shot dead with cars stoned and some burnt.
Qaffe Point Hotel was raided by looters who left it damaged, and Quickmart Supermarket was also raided as looters had a field day.
In the morning, the demonstrations were peaceful as protesters started walking from Digo Road to Jomo Kenyatta Avenue.
