Principal Magistrate Wandia Nyamu and Milimani Court police officers have been praised after they bought milk for suspects.

The suspects were brought to court on charges of taking part in the Tuesday, July 2, Occupy CBD protests.

According to sources, the protesters were hungry as they had not eaten since their arrest on Tuesday, some had complained in court of feeling dizzy and unwell.

Around 185 protestors were in court late into the night on Wednesday, July 3.

They are awaiting a ruling after an application by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to detain them for 21 days.

Police claimed they were investigating a case of breaking into a building contrary to section 306 of the Penal Code and malicious property damage.

They are also accused of obstructing police officers in the execution of their duties.

Meanwhile, Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has claimed that protesters injured during the anti-Finance Bill protests have been treated for free at government hospitals.

In a statement on X, the CS said that 58 people were still admitted.

“My attention has been drawn to efforts by some individuals to raise funds from the public to pay hospital bills for persons injured during the demonstrations,”

“Out of the total 294 casualties attended to in our Referral Hospitals, 235 have been treated for various degrees of injuries and discharged and non has been asked for payment. 58 are still admitted with 1 in ICU, and 3 waiting for theatre. We wish them a quick recovery.” The CS said.

Her statement has caused outrage on social media with many accusing her incompetence.
