The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) clergy has urged Kenya’s Gen Z anti-government protesters to call off protests.
They urged youths to give President William Ruto a chance to address their grievances.
In a statement read by Archbishop Joseph Ole Sapit, they praised the protesters for bringing positive change in the government.
Sapit also said as the church they are repenting for all their shortcomings and urged leaders to do the same.
“We repent of all our shortcomings and commit to always speaking against sin and evils of all kinds. We equally call upon all national leaders to also repent. Let us all translate our faith commitments into action. As a church, we commit to uphold accountability and defend the pulpit from abuse of all kinds,” Sapit said.
Sapit pleaded with Gen Z to desist from actions that might jeopardise the future they are fighting for.
“We appeal to protesters to suspend protests and give the government time to attend to the raft of demands, some of which the President has begun to address including firing most of his Cabinet Secretaries, signing of the IEBC Amendment Bill 2024 into law and the resignation of the IG of Police among others,”
“Please desist from actions that will jeopardise the very future that we are all fighting for. We as a church will monitor and report any progress that is made and also demand that whatever has been committed should be implemented.” Sapit shared.
Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops also appealed to Gen Z to drop their hardline decision and embrace dialogue with the government.
Speaking during a press conference, the bishops urged the youth to sit down with the president for the sake of the country.
