Italian swimmer Thomas Ceccon has gone viral after being spotted sleeping in a Paris park.

The gold medal winner spread a white towel on the grass and enjoyed a nap under a tree next to a bench.

Saudi rower Husein Alireza shared a photo of Ceccon napping and posted it on his Instagram, tagging the location as inside the Olympic Village grounds.

The 23-year-old publicly complained about accommodations at the Olympic Village.

“There is no air conditioning in the village, it’s hot, the food is bad, many athletes move for this reason: it’s not an alibi or excuse, it’s the reality of what perhaps not everyone knows,”

“I’m disappointed that I didn’t make the final but I was too tired. It’s hard to sleep both at night and in the afternoon. Usually, when I’m at home, I always sleep in the afternoon: here I struggle between the heat and the noise.” Ceccon said.

The national boxing coach for Samoa died at the Paris Olympic Village, officials confirmed on Saturday, July 27.

Lionel Elika Fatupaito died after reportedly suffering cardiac arrest while at the Olympic Village. The coach was 60 years old.

The International Boxing Association confirmed the death of Fatupaito in a statement.

“We at the International Boxing Association (IBA) extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Lionel Elika Fatupaito, the national boxing coach of Samoa, who tragically passed away during the Paris 2024,”

“Lionel’s dedication and passion for the sport have left an indelible mark on the boxing community. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations. Our thoughts and prayers are with Team Samoa and all those affected by this profound loss.” The statement read.
