The tragic accident that occurred on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway involving a new Range Rover has been the subject of wild speculation on social media.
The crash resulted in the deaths of the driver, Jamal Mubarak, and a female passenger, who has now been identified as a house help employed by the car’s owner.
The vehicle, still bearing temporary number plates, was being driven by Mubarak after the owner, who had been vacationing with his family in Mombasa, decided to return to Nairobi in a different vehicle. The family was traveling in one car, while the new Range Rover was driven by Mubarak, who collided with a canter at Maji Ya Chumvi.
Ndungu Nyoro, founder of Watoto Wasome, addressed the incident on social media, clarifying misunderstandings that had arisen.
Nyoro rubbished rumors that suggested the car owner had abandoned his family and was traveling with a girlfriend, leaving the house help and driver at risk. He explained that the car owner had imported two vehicles from the UK and had arranged for one to be driven back by Mubarak with the house help onboard.
Ndungu Nyoro post on social media read,
“After my earlier post about this vehicle, so many people started talking of a side dish. Then one person, pained by the falsehoods showed up and decided to set the record straight.
His name is Ian Kaniu. He is the agent who cleared the vehicle at the port. In fact, they were two vehicles in 40ft container from UK.I sent an inbox to Mr Kaniu to understand more about the matter. The owner imported two vehicles from UK. At the time of arrival he had taken his family for a holiday in Mombasa. His wife, children and house help. “
Nyoro went to add,
“After clearing the two vehicles, he decided to drive one of them with his wife and children onboard. He then instructed his driver to carry their house help in the other. The driver and the house help would soon after suffer a fatal crash.Now, someone just decided to come up with a rumour that the owner decided to fly back after making merry with a girlfriend who he left at the mercy of a hired driver to ride back in Nairobi. These rumours sound sweet until they land at your doorstep. What if that was your sister or mother. Would you still be throwing all the funny jokes?”
Nyoro’s post aimed to set the record straight, emphasizing the need for sensitivity and accuracy in reporting such tragedies.
