A woman whose hard earned funds from working in Saudi Arabia were misappropriated by her mother and pastor is now homeless.

Susan Wanjiru Kaigwa returned to Kenya from the Gulf in December 2021, only to discover that her mother had embezzled her Ksh 500,000 savings.

She had been remitting money for her mother’s support and her daughter’s education, but her mother had misused the funds.

“My grandmother was diabetic and had high blood pressure. My mum told me she used the money I sent her from abroad to treat my grandmother

“Upon investigation, I realised she had been using the money on other things. My younger brother told me about my mum’s financial relationship with the pastor,” she said.

After the discovery, Wanjiru chose to reside in the house her father had constructed on his property.

Nevertheless, due to an ongoing family dispute with her mother, her mother dispatched her son to inform Wanjiru that she needed to leave the residence.

“At that moment, I had travelled for a few days. When I returned, I found the house had been demolished. I have nowhere to go, no money and no job. My brother told me my mother had even asked him to set the fire ablaze if he found me in the house

“I took my little belongings and found refuge in the bush near our compound. It is also where my father was laid to rest and my niece. I boil leaves because it is the only thing I can afford,” she noted.
