Gilbert Masengeli is a prominent figure in Kenya’s law enforcement, currently serving as the acting Inspector General of the Administration Police Service.
With over 35 years of experience, he has held various significant roles, including Commandant of the National Police College.
Masengeli’s career has been marked by notable achievements and awards, including the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).
Education
Masengeli holds a Master of Science in Security and Forensics management and a Bachelor of Science in Criminology in Security Management (Cyber-Crime) and Digital Forensic Technology option from Dedan Kimathi University.
He also has a Diploma in Criminology from Kenya Institute of Studies in Criminology Justice and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Relations at the United States International University (USIU).
Career
Masengeli is an accomplished police officer with more than 35 years of dedicated service.
Before his current role, he served as the Commandant at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘A’ Campus.
Masengeli holds the designation of Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and possesses extensive experience in various domains, including his tenure with the Special Operations Group of the Border Police Unit.
At the Special Operations Group of the Border Police Unit, he coordinated multi-agency special security operations.
Additionally, as Assistant Inspector General of Police, he was instrumental in formulating strategies for threat mitigation and providing guidance on security deployments at border points.

Masengeli has been honored with numerous esteemed accolades, such as the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS), the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) of Kenya and the Silver Star (SS) of Kenya.
Legal issues
Masengeli has been sentenced to six months in prison for contempt of court after failing to comply with court summons seven times.
The ruling was made by Justice Lawrence Mugambi on September 13.
Masengeli was required to explain the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of three individuals, including political activists, who went missing on August 19, 2024, during protests.
Justice Mugambi ordered Masengeli to surrender himself to the Commissioner General of Prisons to begin serving his sentence.
However, the judge suspended the sentence for seven days, allowing Masengeli the opportunity to appear in court to address the issues he has been avoiding.
If he fails to comply, the sentence will take effect, and the Cabinet Secretary for Interior will be responsible for ensuring his imprisonment.
“Masengeli can redeem himself by availing himself before this court in person to answer to the issues which he has been avoiding failure to do so the sentence will become effect,” the Judge said.
