Family of Scholars: Meet the Kindiki Brothers Who Are All Professors

Kithure Kindiki has been nominated by President William Ruto as Kenya’s new Deputy President, succeeding Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached.

Kindiki, currently the Interior Cabinet Secretary, has been a loyal ally of Ruto and previously served as his legal counsel during an ICC trial.

His nomination follows Gachagua’s removal amid allegations of corruption and misconduct.

Kindiki is expected to bring stability and continuity to the administration, having maintained his ministerial role since 2022 and being well-regarded across political divides.

1. Prof. Abraham Kithure Kindiki

Kithure earned his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Moi University in 1998 and a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Human Rights Law from the University of Pretoria in 2000.

He completed his PhD in International Law there in 200214.

Kindiki began his academic career at Moi University before moving to the University of Nairobi, where he became an Associate Professor.

He served as the Senator for Tharaka Nithi County from 2013 to 2022 and was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Interior before being nominated as Deputy President in October 2024.

2. Prof. Moses Mpuria Kindiki

Moses possesses a PhD in Political Economy and Development from University College London and was awarded the Second Place Medal for Outstanding Research on Development by the Global Development Network in 2004.

3. Prof. Stephen Kithinji Kindiki

Stephen serves as a professor in the Department of Languages and Performing Arts at Daystar University.

His teaching portfolio includes courses in English Grammar, Phonology, First and Second Language Acquisition, Sociolinguistics, and Psycholinguistics.

Additionally, Stephen is deeply interested in Morphology, Semantics/Pragmatics, Forensic Linguistics, Intercultural Studies, as well as Translation and Interpretation Studies.

Notable literary figures who have significantly influenced his work include Prof. Kimbo-Sure, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka and Prof. J. S. Mbiti.

4. Prof. Jonah Nyaga Kindiki

Jonah obtained his PhD from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom in 2004.

He currently holds the position of Full Professor of International Education and Policy at the School of Education at Moi University.

With a total of 116 publications to his name, he has successfully supervised 40 doctoral candidates and 174 master’s degree students through to completion.

Additionally, Jonah has previously served as the coordinator for various educational programs, as the Head of the Department of Educational Management and Policy Studies, and as the Dean of the School of Education.

He has also acted as the Project Leader for the East and South African-German Centre of Excellence in Educational Research Methodologies and Management (CERM-ESA).

5. Prof. Isaiah Iguna Kindiki

Isaiah currently serves as the Vice Chancellor and CEO of KCA University.

With more than 28 years of experience in teaching and research, he is a Professor of Soil Science, having spent 19 of those years in senior university management roles.

Isaiah’s academic credentials include a PhD in Soil Science, an MSc in Soil Science, a BSc in Agriculture, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education and Training.
