Talia Oyando: The llustrious Career of Kenya’s Reggae Media Queen

Celebrated showbiz queen Talia Oyando popularly known as the Night Nurse has announced her exit from Citizen TV.

Oyando who hosted the One Love reggae show shared the news with her fans via her social media platforms on Monday, January 20, bidding farewell to a job she has held for eight years.

She shared that she was heading into a new chapter in her life, urging her supporters to be on the lookout for upcoming projects.

“After 8 beautiful years of love, music, and family on One Love at Citizen TV, it’s time for a new chapter. I am grateful for every one of you who made this journey unforgettable.

“Like Joseph Hill said, ‘Love shines brighter than the morning sun.’ This isn’t goodbye. Greater things are ahead. Let’s meet up for the final episode,” she wrote.

She is a force to reckon with in the Kenyan entertainment industry with her career dating back to her teenage years. Following the footsteps of her father Producer/Musician Maurice Oyando, she was part of the girl group Talma that won an Emmy Award for their album Jambo Rafiki in 2001, which had great hit songs such as Say Yes For Children.

Talia then ventured out as a solo artiste, collborating with artists like the late E-Sir in Haunitishi after which she tried her hand at TV hosting and was successful. Her ententertainment show became a hit and shortly after, she transitioned into radio presenting at the tender age of 19.

She joined Nation Media’s Easy FM and went on to become one of the most celebrated young radio presenters in Kenya. Her hit show Top 10 till 10 was very popular within the country and this opened doors for her to tap into new experiences in radio, television and music.

She did musical collaborations with top Kenyan acts like Goldenchyl, CMB Prezzo, A.Y from Tanzania, and Rizla who ushered her into reggae music.

She took a career break to focus on her family, and got married to film director Ezekiel Onyango in 2010, with whom she shares a son named Lyric.

In 2013, she resumed her radio career at Homeboyz radio and hosted a late night show dubbed The Juice In The Mix which she left in 2020.

The reggae queen also hosted a show on Radio Jambo called Reggae Wave from Monday to Friday from 7PM to 9PM.

Talia then joined Royal Media Services in 2016 as a host of Citizen TV’s reggae show, One Love alongside Coco Sobo until January 2025 when she announced her exit from the station.
