Businesswoman Sarah Mtalii recently announced that she will travel to Malaysia with her lawyer, Peter Mwenda Njagi, on Valentine’s Day to receive an award for her Virtuous Woman Foundation.

Mwenda, her family and business lawyer, is currently overseeing her divorce from her estranged husband and business partner, Simon Kabu.

He serves as the managing partner at Mwenda Njagi & Co. Advocates & Mediators, specializing in criminal and family law, as well as alternative dispute resolution.

He also heads the Mwenda Njagi Foundation, which supports the education of underprivileged children, primarily in Thika Constituency. The foundation also includes a probation department where he provides legal representation for these children.

Education

Njagi has a Bachelor of Laws (HONs) University of Nairobi, a Certified Professional Mediator and a Member Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Career

Njagi specializes in employment-related disputes, retirement and benefits conflicts, and investment advisories. He provides legal services in family litigation, inheritance law, succession, wills, probate and estate matters, children’s issues, divorce, and marital mediation.

Mwenda Njagi made headlines after he became the youngest lawyer to win a case in the Supreme court in 2018.

He represented the family of the late Loise Njeri Mbiyu, the first of four wives of former influential politician Peter Mbiyu Koinange, in a four-decade-long succession battle over a Kshs 30 billion estate.

Justice Eric Ogola and Justice Aggrey Muchelule (now a Court of Appeal judge) concurred with Mwenda’s argument that Koinange’s estate should be distributed among 12 beneficiaries rather than divided according to the houses.

Another significant case was when Mwenda successfully secured a warrant of arrest against blogger Edgar Obare for publishing a defamatory article about Westwick College operator Christine Lewis, accusing her of scamming students with false promises of overseas opportunities.

However, the warrant was vacated after the blogger failed to appear, and his whereabouts remained unknown.

Political Career

In 2022, he contested the Thika Town parliamentary seat under the Safina Party but lost to UDA’s Alice Ng’ang’a.

Involvement with Sarah Mtalii

The lawyer is currently representing Sarah in her divorce from her estranged husband, Simon Kabu.

Sarah revealed that they will be traveling to Malaysia as part of an empowerment initiative under her foundation.

He is a very good friend of mine and for us women, it is always good to have a support system because right now to be frank, he is my strength. I go through a lot of situations and sometimes I feel like I have no strength but he comes through for me and does whatever needs to be done. He is my number-one cheerleader,” Sarah said in an interview with Hot 96.

Sarah revealed that they will be heading to Malaysia for a trip that is part of an empowerment initiative under her foundation.

“I think I will go with my lawyer. We will be staying in different hotels. He is now my strategic business development partner,” she clarified.

Peter has emphasized that their relationship is strictly professional, swiftly dismissing any rumors.

It’s just work. I am humbled by those compliments. Every successful personality needs a support system,” he said in the interview.

Outside his professional life, Mwenda is married and a father of three. In his free time, he enjoys sports and is an avid golfer.
