Entrepreneur, adventurer, author and Virgin Group Limited founder Richard Branson has more often than not identified Kenya, especially the Maasai Mara as his favourite place.
In March, Forbes Magazine reported that the billionaire is worth $4.3 billion (Ksh463 billion).
The British business magnate was installed as a community elder among the Maasai community in 2007.
In 2013, with the help of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the local Maasai community, Branson opened the “Mahali Mzuri” resort in Maasai Mara. The Swahili name translates to “beautiful place”.
The luxury safari camp is situated in the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy in the wider Maasai Mara ecosystem.
“A few years ago I had been told by a friend that the great migration was in danger of being choked by development; I wanted to do something about it, as I truly believe that there is nothing more magical than witnessing the grasslands of the Maasai Mara begin to rustle as millions of migrating wildebeests head for the plains of the southern Serengeti.
“Opening Mahali Mzuri, which means ‘beautiful place’ in Swahili, has given me access to the best wildlife viewing in the world,” Branson stated during a past interview.
A team of Kenya Wildlife guides at the establishment provides tour services for revelers at the camp.
The bush camp has a clear view of the migration path for wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, eland, and topi as they leave Maasai Mara for the Serengeti and back.
Prices at the exclusive camp range from Ksh86,160 to Ksh100,000 per person per night.
