Lawyer and human rights activist John Khaminwa is a well known and respected name in the corridors of justice. At 85, he probably the oldest active lawyer in the country today.
He is famed and respected for his stand and advocacy for humanity. According to the lawyer, listening and responding to the problems and challenges facing others is very therapeutic.
Khaminwa has represented a number of top politicians in the country, from the late Kenneth Matiba, Raila Odinga, George Anyona, to the most recent former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Marriage
Khaminwa was married to the late Lady Justice Joyce Nuku Khaminwa. The two were married for about 48 years.
She was famed for her no nonsense approach, and was never afraid of confronting anyone she felt was irrational or offending.
On May 23, 2014, she sued her employer, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), after the commission tried to retire her.
Her integrity as a judge was revered and she had greatly contributed to the progression of justice throughout her tenure.
Khaminwa and Joyce were blessed with four children, Albert, Arthur, Anne and Angela
Albert Khaminwa
Albert George Shihemi Khaminwa followed in the footsteps of his parents. He was a Senior Partner in the law firm of Khaminwa & Khaminwa Advocates.
Albert held a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Master of Laws from the University of Warwick, UK.
Unfortunately, he passed away on May 27, 2017. He is survived by his wife Cecilia and his daughter Hillary Joyce Khaminwa.
Arthur Khaminwa
Arthur lives in Mombasa County with his family. He is a graduate of the University of Leeds in England, UK.
Angela Khaminiwa
Angela took in the footsteps of her father as a human rights activist. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire and an Masters in Dispute Resolution from the University of Massachusetts at Boston
Over the course of her her career, she has focused relationship between conflict and socio-cultural systems. She has examined women and conflict, public high schools in America, and conflict resolution in Kenya.
Angela has worked with student activist in the United States Senate, nd as a mediator in the Massachusetts Court System.
She is married and lives with her family in Austria.
Anne Khaminwa
Anne lives in the United States. She is also a human rights activist and has published numerous articles on PanAfricanism, peacekeeping among others.
