Azeezah Hashim is a multi-talented Kenyan media personality who has carved a unique space for herself in the entertainment industry.

Known for her vibrant energy, distinctive voice, and engaging presence, Azeezah has risen from humble beginnings to become a celebrated TV and radio host.

Also a voice-over artist, emcee and entrepreneur, her journey stands as an inspiring testament to passion and the power of self-belief.

Early life and education

Azeezah was born and raised in Nairobi, spending her formative years in the lively neighborhoods of Eastleigh and California estate.

Growing up in a bustling urban environment, she was exposed to a mix of cultures and influences that would later shape her creative career.

As a child, Azeezah dreamed of becoming a doctor, a goal fueled by her academic excellence.

She worked diligently through school, eventually earning an impressive A grade in her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

“My whole life, I have been a straight A student. I was quite an introvert, by the way. I wanted to do medicine, actually, but not for myself, for my dad. But I just never showed up. I got a straight A from national schools, but deep down, I knew I wanted to pursue media,” she said in a past interview.

Her academic journey led her to the University of Nairobi, where she initially enrolled to pursue a medical degree, but in her second year, Azeezah experienced a pivotal shift in ambition.

Drawn to the world of media and storytelling, she switched paths, transferring to a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies.

A reluctant start in media

Azeezah’s entry into the media industry was not without its challenges.

She has openly shared how she once struggled with self-doubt, particularly about her deep, baritone voice, which she initially felt set her apart in an unflattering way.

“All the girls in media had nice, cute voices, and then there was me, matching voices with Jeff Koinange. I didn’t like it at all, so when people complimented me, I would think, ‘What are they seeing,” she said.

This insecurity, coupled with social anxiety, made her hesitant to step into the spotlight.

Yet, her passion for communication and connection with audiences eventually outweighed her fears.

Her career began modestly at Campus Radio, an online station, where she hosted a one-hour political show as a university student.

This experience ignited her love for broadcasting, leading her to take on roles such as a content curator at Whats Up Studios and a brief stint at Mstar, another online radio platform.

Rise to prominence

Azeezah’s big break came when she joined NRG Radio.

Initially submitting content as an MVP in 2018, she later became a standout presenter, co-hosting the NRG Breakfast show alongside personalities like King Kalala and Natalie Githinji.

Her charisma and relatable style quickly won over listeners, establishing her as a rising star.

Her television career took off when she joined NTV’s Teen Replublik as a host, a role that showcased her ability to connect with younger audiences.

However, it was her appointment as the host of Citizen TV’s 10 Over 10—replacing Willis Raburu—that catapulted her to national fame.

With co-host Gudah Man, Azeezah redefined the show, infusing it with her signature vibrancy and making it a go-to platform for entertainment and youth-focused discussions.

Beyond TV, she also hosts a mid-morning show on Hot96 FM, further cementing her status as a versatile broadcaster.

Awards and recognition

Azeezah’s hard work has not gone unnoticed. In 2023, she was named Best Radio Personality in East and Southern Africa at the Zikomo Africa Awards.

The following year, she clinched the Media Personality of the Year title at the Odartey Style and Fashion Awards in Ghana.
