Court documents has shown how much SportPesa made in its first five years of operation in Kenya.

The court papers revealed the firms annual earnings placing it at the second position after telecommunication company, Safaricom.

SportPesa made a net profit of KSh 12.9 billion for its Kenyan owners five years after entering the Kenyan market.

This equals to KSh 215 million net profit every month or KSh 2.58 billion every month.

In 2018, a court report had put the figure at a staggering KSh 149.7 billion every year with average daily bets estimated at KSh 408 million.

In the same year, SportPesa announced that it had paid KSh 129.6 billion as winnings, leaving it with KSh 20.1 billion.

The firms is also said to have generated net profit in excess of KSh 10 billion.

Pevans launched SportPesa in 2014 whose shareholders include Mrs Maina with a 21 percent stake, Paul Wanderi Ndungu (17 percent), Karauri (seven percent) and Macharia (three percent).

This comes at a time when the High Court has temporarily stopped CEO Ronald Karauri and his new company Milestone Games Limited from using the SportPesa brand name.

Asenath Wachera Maina has sued the Registrar of Trademarks, Karauri, Robert Macharia, and their partners whom she accuses of fraudulently transferring the trademark from Pevans to Milestone.

“That a temporary injunction be and is hereby issued restraining the fourth (Milestone) and fifth defendant (SPGHL) whether by themselves, their officers, agents, servants, proxies and/or any other person acting under direction, control or authority from using the trademark number 74874 under Class 41 known as SportPesa pending the hearing and determination of this application,” Lady Justice Dorah Chepkwony ordered on Monday.
