Kenyan gospel singer Stephen Kasolo has cleared the air on the viral death rumours concerning his friend and fellow musician Bony Mwaitege.

Kasolo said Kenyans should stop posting the reports of Mwaitege’s death online as the Tanzanian singer is alive and well.

The death hoax originated on TikTok and claimed Mwaitege was involved in a road accident and died on the spot.

Kasolo in a video on his YouTube channel shared that he had confirmed the musician was alive.

This sentiment was collaborated by another Tanzanian singer Mwangila.

Mwangila said this was not the first the death rumours had targeted Mwaitege.

He said other gospel musicians including him had fallen victim to it.

‘Aki watu niwabaya sana… Mwaitege akitoa nyimbo hampost lakini saa hii kila mtu anapost ujinga… May the Lord have mercy on you. Ako sawa go and subscribe to his channel.” Kasolo said.

Mwaitege is a Tanzanian gospel icon who is known for his hit song Mke Wangu.

The singer’s other hit songs include Fungua Moyo wako, Nisamehe and Njoo ufanyiwe.

Mwaitege started doing music as part of a band for Ephraim Mwarisasu.

He was an active dancer in Ephraim’s music videos and a backup vocalist.

Mwaitege decided he wanted to pursue his own music career, and consulted with Ephraim who encouraged him to go solo.

He moved to Dar es Salaam, and faced many challenges before he was able to sell his CDs because he was an unknown artist.
