Braeburn Group Of Schools: Meet the Principals Leading Kenya’s Most Prestigious Institutions

The Braeburn Group of International Schools is among Kenya’s most renowned institutions, offering high-quality international education for students from all around the world. Known for its British-based curriculum, the group has built a strong reputation for academic excellence, providing a well-rounded education that focusing on nurturing students to become global citizens.

The group has institutions in Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, which has increased its popularity among local and expatriate families.

A little over five months ago, the school administration appointed four new executive principals to lead various branches, with extensive careers in the educational leadership.

Here are the profiles of the school heads.

Wallen Nyamota

Nyamota is the Executive Principal of Braeside Lavington, Braeside Thika & Braeburn Kisumu. He has been an educator for the past 20 years and has help several leadership roles at the institution.

With two degrees in Education Management from Kenyatta and Moi University, Nyamota is an astute educational leader whose passion for education is reflected in his dedication to ensure safety, delivering top notch education and upholding learning standards for all students.

He began his stint at the Braeburn Group of Schools as Deputy Headteacher of Braeburn School Arusha where he served from 2005 to 2014. He was then promoted to Headteacher of Braeside High School Lavington, a position held for ten years until August 2024.

While serving at Braeside Lavington, he also held the head of administration role in 2023, a position he held for a year until his promotion to Executive Principal of Braeside Lavington, Braeside Thika & Braeburn Kisumu.

Tim Richards

Tim Richards is the executive principal of Braeburn Garden Estate & Braeburn Nanyuki. He has an extensive 22-year career in education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Teacher Training from the University of Exter, and two Masters in Education Management and Applied Education Management and Leadership from the University of London.

Richards joined Braeburn Garden Estate in 2012 after teaching at Peponi School for seven years where he headed the Science Department. He was promoted to Executive Principal at Braeburn Garden Estate five months ago, bringing in his vast experience in education leadership.

“Being passionate about every child achieving their full potential and providing pupils with enriching experiences and opportunities is a key driver for Tim,” the institution noted.

Simon Ruscoe- Price

Price is the Executive Principal of HillCrest School. He has over thirty years of experience in education as a school principal, teacher trainer, and progressive education pioneer globally.

Beginning his career in the United Kingdom as a Foreign Languages teacher specialising in French, the University of Reading alumni taught at various schools including The Windsor Boys School( UK), Yately School (UK and Northgate High School(UK). He also was a founding head of the Gatwick School of West Sussex, UK. His acumen transcends borders, serving as Deputy Director at Nord Anglia Education in the Middle East and Director of Language and Academics at Wellington College in China.

Before his appointment at Hillcrest in August 2024, he was the school principal at Junhwa International School in China, a position he held for a year. Before that, he had a three-year stint as headmaster of Abbotsholme School located in England, UK.

Raja Ali

Raja Ali is the Executive Principal of Braeburn School & Braeburn Mombasa. The institution describes Ali as passionate about lifelong learning and committed to integrating best practices from different educational systems to foster excellence in learning and teaching.

The educational leader has extensive experience in global curriculum, holding an MA in International Education from the University of Leicester.

Before his role at Braeburn, he previously worked as the Head of Upper School Academics at the China-based Harrow Innovation Leadership Academy.

He has also held several senior leadership roles at Wellington College in China, at Brandeton Preparatory Academy in Dubai and at the Mosaica American School in India and Abu Dhabi cementing his prowess in International Education.
