Actor and comedian Kazungu Matano, popularly known as Captain Otoyo, has recently resurfaced after departing from radio  four years ago. The comedian who has been missing from showbiz recently revealed that life has been treating him well, disclosing why he chose to hang the mic from his plum job on Milele FM.

Matano says that he took time off to enjoy the fortune he made from the industry, which propelled him to lead a quiet life away from the public eye.

“I realised I had made so much money and needed to enjoy otherwise I might leaving people behind fighting over it yet they have no idea how hard I worked for it. So I took time to go and spend my money,” Captain Otoyo shared with a local media house.

Otoyo sprung into the limelight through Citizen TV’s popular show Papa Shirandula, where his comedic skills came alive as he played a rural dweller who was experiencing the city for the first time. The hit show would open doors for him, and he proceeded to do stand-up comedy on Churchill Show which consequently led him to his radio presenter role on Radio Maisha and Milele FM.

Otoyo said that his success from entertainment industry led him to amass great wealth and in 2020, when Churchill Show ended, he decided to take time away from the scene to enjoy his fortune and venture into personal projects.

He dispelled rumors about the detereoration of his physical wellbeing due to his absence, affirming that he has been good health since his departure.

“Life has been okay. Do you know the last time I was unwell, and I say this with a lot of humility, was in 1998? Since then, the only problem I can have is a hangover,” said Otoyo.

While he still enjoys his time away from the spotlight, Otoyo shared that in the event he resumes the comedy scene he would want to challenge himself to do things outside of his comfort zone.

“I would love to venture into other things especially now that I feel like I have fair experience in life. I think it would be a nice challenge to myself,” he added urging fans to stay ready for his upcoming projects.
