K24 journalist Catherine Wanjeri who was shot by police during demonstrations in Nakuru has been discharged from hospital.

Wanjeri’s cheerful colleagues were at the hospital to celebrate her discharge.

They gave her flowers and hugs as they serenaded the journalist with songs and dance.

Wanjeri had to undergo surgery to remove three rubber bullets lodged in her thigh.

The journalist said she had been hit with a teargas canister earlier before being shot by the police officers.

“Nobody would convince me that I was not a target because it is not the first time I had been targeted. A teargas canister had hit me, but I did not report the matter, I did not escalate the matter,” she said.

Wanjeri said she never expected to be in the hospital when reporting for duty.

“Little did I know that I would end up in a hospital with stitches on my thigh,” she said.

The news of Wanjeri being shot in the leg and badly injured angered fellow journalists who demanded justice.

Wanjeri was covering the anti-government protests in Nakuru when she was allegedly shot by the police.

The Media Max journalist was at Nakuru CBD on duty with other journalists who also sustained injuries.

She was shot while standing outside a bank’s premises, with the bullet hitting her on the thigh.
