The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) State of the Media 2023 Survey Report released on Thursday, May 2 revealed that Citizen TV is still the most-watched television station in Kenya.

The station has a viewership of 35 per cent in 2023, the same as 2022.

NTV was second with 11 per cent of viewership, and KTN Home was third with 8 per cent.

KTN News was the fourth with 7 per cent and K24 fifth at 7 per cent.

National broadcaster KBC managed to get into sixth.

KBC had a huge drop from 2022 when it was second, the national broadcaster dropped from a 12 per cent viewership in 2022 to 7 per cent.

Citizen TV’s success can linked to popular news bulletins like Nipashe and local shows like Becky, Inspekta Mwala and Mexican telenovelas.

In radio, Royal Media’s Radio Citizen retained its top slot.

Radio Citizen is at the top with 22 per cent, Radio Jambo is second with 14 per cent.

Third is Radio Maisha gaining 11 per cent and Milele FM at fourth with 6 per cent.

Cape Media-owned Radio 47 has risen to the top five among Kenyan radio stations with 5 per cent listenership.

The survey covered 2023 and showed that the top four radio stations retained their spots in the ranking, with Radio Citizen gaining more viewers from 18 per cent in 2022 to 22 per cent in 2023.
