Deputy President William Samoei Ruto is one of the most talked about politicians in Kenya right now. Interestingly, the man poised to be the next Commander in Chief has kept his siblings out of politics until recently. His brother David Samoei Ruto, who is the subject of this article, has joined the presidential campaign team of his elder brother.
Here is his story as told by WoK.
David Samoei Ruto background
He was brought up in Uasin Gishu county where he attended school. The DP’s brother recounted in 2019 how life was difficult growing as the family had no money to spare for ‘luxuries’ like school shoes.
“We were poor. We (siblings) walked to school which was four kilometres away every day barefoot,” he told residents of Kikumbo area in Machakos County.
Education
According to his personal blog, the DP’s brother holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Information Systems from Indiana State University and an MBA from Capella University. Information of the institution he attended in Kenya was not available by the time of publishing this story.
Career
David Samoei Ruto has had an illustrious career and this is evident on his Linkedin account. He worked as assistant production planner (2000-2001), shipping manager (2002 – 2003),
Systems/ERP Administrator (2003 – Nov 2006), MIS Trainer (Sep 2006 – Mar 2007), Consultant Columbus IT – USA (Apr 2007 – Nov 2010), Hitachi Solutions America as a manager and now presidential campaign advisor for the past two years.

Wife/Children
The DP’s young brother got engaged to the love of his life Carol Kitur in 2019 in an event attended by the who is who in Rift Valley politics. The couple have a daughter.
Current work in the DP’S Presidential Think Tank
David is now actively involved in his brother’s presidential campaigns. He is among the brains that are driving the agenda of William Ruto. His Facebook fanpage is dominated by UDA-the political party associated with Ruto-success stories and at the same time casting aspersions on ODM leader Raila Odinga.
David Ruto other brothers
He has two other brothers. Harrison Kiptoo died of Kidney cancer in 2016 while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital. David has another brother by the name Paulo Martim Ruto. He rose to fame when a number of bloggers reported that he was living in abject poverty while his brother was enjoying the trappings of power.
