President William Ruto is scheduled to preside over the inauguration and dedication of the Ksh 4.5 billion Billy Graham Memorial Cardiothoracic Centre at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet today, Thursday, October 24.

This advanced facility, financed by donors from the United States, is named in honor of the late American evangelist Billy Graham.

The centre boasts a capacity of 176 beds and is specifically designed to provide both surgical and training services, catering to the outpatient and inpatient requirements in the realm of cardiothoracic care.

It features 52 intensive care units, post-anaesthesia units, six major operating theatres, cauterization suites, five endoscopy rooms, and an outpatient clinic.

Additionally, the facility includes examination rooms, a pharmacy, a laboratory, a blood bank, CT and X-ray machines, six cardiothoracic theatres, a preoperative holding area, and a 32-bed post-anaesthesia care unit.

It is equipped to perform 2,000 major heart and chest surgeries annually, alongside thousands of endoscopies and cauterizations.

Since 2008, the hospital has successfully conducted over 2,000 heart surgeries, but has encountered various challenges, underscoring the necessity for this new facility.
