Edith Kimani: From KTN To Joining International Media And Relationship With Larry Madowo

Edith Kimani is a Kenyan journalist who works as a reporter and news anchor at Deutsche Welle (DW), a German television station network. She joined the giant news network in 2017 after seven years working at the Kenya News Network (KTN).

Here is her story as told by WoK,

Age

Kimani was born on 25th January 1990. She was brought up in Nairobi’s Kinoo area.

Education

She attended Forest View Academy in Karen for four years before she went on to join Westlands Primary school where she sat for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination (KCPE). She posted good results and gained entry to State House Girls.

From a young age, she wanted to be an actor. She participated in drama at primary school. This love for drama followed her to high school where she was an ardent participant in the drama club.

In fact, during her time at State House Girls, the school went to the nationals for the first time. She then got a scholarship that saw her join Hillcrest International School.

“I was so excited to wear trousers to school,” she would later reveal.

The young lady then joined United States International University for a course in International Relations.

Career

When KTN began a talent show for aspiring journalists called The Presenter, she participated. She emerged the top in the competition and was hired as a news anchor for the station when the show ended.

Seeing as she was only 19 at the time, she became the youngest ever top journalist to grace the Kenyan screens in 2009.

After working for the station for about 8 years, she left to join the German station DW as the East African correspondent and host of Eco@Africa. She went on to host a youth show called The 77 Percent.

In June 2019, she hosted the Global Media Forum and also moderated the Global Economic Forum DW debate on Africa renewable energy in South Africa. She was also a moderator for the World Trade Organization Public Forum discussion in Switzerland.

Relationship

There were rumours linking the sassy presenter with James Mbugua. These speculations were fuelled when she flew into the country to surprise him for his birthday.

Recently, the internet went wild after the journalist and another Kenyan top journalist Larry Madowo posted photos of each other.

To Kenyans who’ve always speculated on Madowo’s love life, this seemed to be a confirmation that the two were together, especially when Edith captioned the cozy photo with the words:

“My sweet Larry Madowo.”

This is not the first time the two have shared photos of each other. They have previously done so and this always leaves their fans speculating. None of them has ever confirmed or denied they were together.
