Ferdinand Omanyala’s coach Geoffrey Kimani has claimed Kenyan social media is toxic

Kimani was speaking after Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge revealed the trolling and threats he received after Kelvin Kiptum’s death.

The coach said Kenyan social media is toxic, jealous and malicious and comes alive when one stumbles or fails.

He urged coaches and management to protect their athletes from malicious acts from social media trolls.

“KE social media is toxic, jealous, malicious….comes alive when one STUMBLE or fails… great mindset here though, for the coaches out there, protect your athletes and space. an ATHLETE circle must be tight-knit,” Kimani said.

Omanyala has also been a victim of social media trolls mostly targeting his relationships and performance.

Two-time Olympic champion Kipchoge broke his silence on the death of fellow athlete Kelvin Kiptum during a BBC interview.

Kipchoge in the interview said people threatened to harm him, his family and businesses.

“I was shocked that people on social media platforms are saying ‘Eliud is involved in the death of this boy’,” he said.

The Kenyan icon said that was the worst news ever in his life.

“I received a lot of bad things; that they will burn the training camp, they will burn my investments in town, they will burn my house, they will burn my family.

“It did not happen but that is how the world is,” Kipchoge said.
