Francis Gaitho, the controversial blogger and activist has been charged with publishing false information.

Gaitho was the man police claimed were looking for when they abducted veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho.

Francis Gaitho is accused of publishing false information and cyber harassment over the alleged Githurai and Rongai massacres and his posts on missing people.

He appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki and denied the two counts of computer misuse and was released on KSh 30,000 bail.

Gaitho’s lawyer told the court that his client was not a flight risk as he was arrested at home.

The DPP asked the court to have Gaitho deposit his passport in court.

Kenya Police confirmed they made a mistake after arresting veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho.

They revealed that they were on the hunt for controversial blogger Francis Gaitho instead.

In a statement, police said the arrest was regrettable and confirmed that vocal social media user Francis Gaitho is the subject of investigations.

In late 2023 and the better part of 2024, Francis Gaitho has been among the most vocal political activists putting the government up to task.

For instance, in the ongoing Gen-Z anti-government protests, he has been on record calling out the government for how they have handled the protests.

Gaitho, a football expert, started his political activism career on TikTok where he shared videos discussing various issues.

He later moved to X, formerly Twitter where he has also been sharing threads and videos calling out President William Ruto and his administration.
