Jectone Oyoo is a Kenyan entrepreneur who runs several companies both locally and abroad.
Oyoo who lives in Texas relocated the United States to pursue a PhD and a later enrolled for a short course in Data Analytics.
Here is his story as told by WoK.
Kenya to the US
In 2011, Oyoo, already a master’s degree holder, quit his job as a banker at Co-Operative Bank and relocated to the US.
He moved to the US to pursue a PhD and he had hoped to return home to work as a lecturer in one of the top universities.
However, life as an international student abroad took a toll on him, forcing him to enroll for a short course in Data Analytics.
“The hardship mostly forces people who land in the US to switch interest and start studying nursing or become truckers so that they survive,” Oyoo said.
He enrolled for a second master’s degree at the University of Alabama.
Oyoo pursued the course and with a Green Card which gave him a permanent residency in the US, he started his own company.
Smart Data Analytic offers consulting services, design and integration, analytics and visualization and platformization.
They also offer fully managed IT services such as monitoring and support services, on-premise and cloud integration services and backup and disaster recovery.
What’s more, Oyoo entered a partnership deal with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to introduce the course in Kenya.
“The future is STEM. We have trained people from all over USA and even in Kenya. People from diverse academic and professional extractions find that data handling analytic skills are indispensable in the current times,” he said.
Other businesses
Other than Smart Data Analytics, Oyoo also runs Jabali Entertainment, an event promoting company that organizes US tours for local musicians.
Through his company, he has organized US events for heavyweights such as Tanzania’s Zuchu and Prince Indah of Kenya.
Oyoo also runs Medstar Staffing Solutions, which helps local nurses work in the US.
He also runs an internet distribution company called Globilink Solutions Limited targeting student hostels in Kisumu.
He is also the founder of Kenyan Report, a local news publisher.
“I am not sure I could have come this far if I remained in the safe zone of the bank or even came back to the lecture halls in the manner I envisioned at first,” Oyoo added.
