Josephine Anan-Ankomah: Decorated Career Of The Newly Appointed Ecobank Kenya Managing Director

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) has appointed Mrs Josephine Anan-Ankomah “as the Regional Executive, Central, Eastern and Southern African (CESA) and Managing Director, Ecobank Kenya”. She takes over from Cheikh Travaky who has retired after being in this position for more than two decades. An experienced banker, Mrs. Anan-Ankomah  has worked with Ecobank for more than thirty years and has vast skills in executive management.

Education 

She holds a a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ghana, and is a fellow of the Association of Certified Public Accountants. 

Career 

Prior to being appointed to her current role, she had served as the Group Executive for Commercial banking at Ecobank Transnational Group. She was responsible for the management of the commercial banking operations for Ecobank in thirty three countries spread across the continent.

She developed suitable solutions to help build African SMEs and local corporates by positioning them to be viable and sustainable. 

Other roles she held in the bank include: 

  • Operating Officer for Ecobank West African Monetary zone/ East and Southern Africa. In this capacity, she supported the expansion of the bank into West, Eastern and Southern Africa. 
  • Regional treasurer covering Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and The Gambia. She managed a balance sheet exceeding $3 billion.
  • Managing Director of Ecobank Gambia. She worked with a team of experienced professionals to position the bank as number one in the market. 

In her new role, she will be in charge of leading and growing the bank’s business in Kenya and the whole CESA region. 

“I look forward to working with the board, management, and fellow Ecobankers to grow our business in Kenya and leverage the vast opportunities within the region,” she said following her appointment. 

Mentorship 

A mentor to many, Mrs. Anan-Ankomah loves music and has made an impact in the gospel industry in Ghana. She has inspired several young singers. She is also passionate about ensuring that women succeed and pioneered a scholarship for girls in the Gambia. Through it, a lot of women gain access to mentorship.
