A self-help group from Kibera, Nairobi are smiling after successfully acquiring a matatu.
The group by the name Egetureri got the matatu through an asset financing solution.
In a post by Equity Bank, the self-help group purchased the matatu through the Pamoja Banking solution.
“The Egetureri Self-Help Group from Kibera has acquired a 33-seater bus through Equity’s Pamoja Banking asset financing solution. Pamoja Banking promotes financial inclusion and empowerment for women, youth, and micro-businesses, aiming to foster economic growth and self-reliance within communities,”
“The official flagging-off ceremony took place at Equity’s Kibera Branch, marking a significant milestone for the group,” the bank said.
Asset financing refers to the use of a company’s balance sheet assets, including short-term investments, inventory and accounts receivable, to borrow money or get a loan.
The company borrowing the funds must provide the lender with a security interest in the assets.
The matatu was unveiled in the Super Metro Sacco colours and will ply within Nairobi routes.
The super metro matatu was also named Egetureri after the group.
Recently, comediann Njugush and his beautiful wife Celestine Ndinda ventured into another investment.
The couple announced that they are now in the matatu business.
Njugush and Celestine unveiled the matatu named Tugi, after their son on their YouTube channel.
Tugi is the couple’s first-born child and they have hinted about buying more matatus in the future.
The matatu will be under the Super Metro matatu sacco with Njugush confirming that members of the public can hire it for functions too.
