The current Kabianga Boys High School principal is Dr Joash Aloo, a known disciplinarian who is not easily swayed by public opinion. In 2018, he locked out students who had not completed their assignments outside the institution. The students had to finish their assignment before being granted access to the school.
Justifying his actions, the principal said it was agreed at the school AGM that students study during holidays. He told Daily Nation of his decision:
“We had an Annual General Meeting on August 2 in which parents asked us to find a way to make the students study during holidays. We then agreed to be giving them assignments so that parents will supervise,”
“Kabianga was once an academic giant and all stakeholders are determined to take it up the chart. The agreement we had about vocational studies during AGM is one of it, that is why parents and the boys are not complaining about this punishment….”
And this is not the first time Dr Joash is making headlines. In 2020, he suspended 13 SDA students for skipping exams for church. “We instructed them to sit for their exam between 5.30am and 7.30am on Sabbath day which had not really breached their doctrine or teachings,” the principal said at the time. The students were readmitted.
Performance
The school posted good results in the 2020 KCSE examination results managing 89 percent transition to University. Six students scored A’s and 53 A-(minus). Eight of the 13 SDA candidates who had been suspended managed to score university entry grades.
Co-curricular Activities
The institution gave a good account of themselves in rugby after clinching the 2019 Rift Valley region 15s. The institution has produced quality players like Thomas Okeyo and Khan Kaptich who were part of Kenya under 20 squad.
