Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers deployed in Burahache Forward Operating Base (FOB) conducted an impromptu medical outreach at El Banda Centre, Burahache, Somalia.
The soldiers were on routine patrol when residents led them to a sick woman within the area who was extremely weak from symptoms of severe dehydration, diarrhoea and vomiting.
According to KDF, the patrol medic sprung to action without hesitation and attended to the woman who needed urgent medical attention.
While attending to the sick woman, more residents arrived requesting treatment with many suffering from tonsillitis, malaria, and allergies among other ailments which were assessed and treated.
“We shall do follow up on all the cases we have attended to within the week to determine their state and response to medication,” Corporal Peter Omondi a KDF medic said.
There are more than 4,000 Kenyan troops deployed in Somalia under the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) alongside troops from Uganda, Ethiopia, Burundi and Djibouti.
The Kenyan government has confirmed its last troops in Somalia will leave by December 2024.
Kenyan soldiers first entered Somalia in 2011 during Operation Linda Nchi when it pursued Al Shabaab militants.
