Kenton College Preparatory School is among the most prestigious schools in the country.
While appearing on an interview on Churchill Show, Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi revealed that his children school at the institution.
Kenton College Preparatory School is located along Gichugu Road in Nairobi.
History
Kenton College was founded by Finley Cramb at Kijabe in January 1924. It rooted from from a school called Kenya Grange at Lumbwa.
It was initially based at an empty building which had been a German sanatorium on a saddle of Kijabe Hill overlooking Mt. Longonot and Lake Naivasha. It was very isolated.
As a rseuslt, in 1934 it was relocated to its current location in Kileleshwa, five kilometres from Nairobi city centre.
It reopened in 1935.
During World War II Kenton was used as a military Headquarters and subsequently as a Hospital. The school transferred to the Westwood Park Hotel at Ngong for the duration of the war.
It returned to its rightful place after the war.
Kenton was always a boys only boarding school. Girls were brought into the school in 1992.
As one of ten IAPS Preparatory Schools in Kenya, Kenton can rightfully be regarded as one of the top 500 Preparatory Schools in the World.
Facilities
Kenton is organised into two parts, Junior School (Y2-4) and Senior School (5-8). Juinor school students are taught by their class teacher, all subjects, and get different teachers for different subjects once they move to senior school.
The institution boasts subject specific academic classrooms, all resourced with ultra modern interactive LED panels or Interactive Whiteboards and projectors.
The school has 3 Science labs (1 Junior, 2 Senior) and 2 ICT and Computing labs. It also has a fully working Library stocked modern releases as well as classics.
Kenton has 3 Art rooms (1 Junior 2 Senior) to support their vibrant and creative Art Department. It also boasts a specialist Design Technology room complete with work benches, machines and a wide range of tools.
The Davis Music Gallery – a beautiful music teaching space along with numerous practice rooms where pupils are offered one to one tuition on the instrument of their choice.
Kenton has specific classroom dedicated to the teaching of Drama. It has an impressive stage complete with full theatre lighting and sound system. Class assemblies regularly take place on the stage as well as two major performance a year.
The school boasts a number of sports facilities including; an 8 lane 25m Swimming Pool and full size synthetic grass pitch. It also has grounds for rugby, rounders, cricket, netball, hockey and football pitches.
Kenton also boasts an ultra-modern state of the art library. It works on the Dewey Decimal System which is used world-wide so children leave the school equipped to use similar library facilities elsewhere.
Staff
Ms Sally Weston is the Head Teacher at Kenton. She is deputised by four teachers, all heads of specific departments.
Outside of the senior management, it has 40 teachers and support staff.
School Fees
A new student is required to pay a non-refundable registration fee of Kshs15,000. If accepted, there is a non-refundable Admission Fee of Kshs150,000.
According to the school website, Kenton charges Ksh640,500 per student per term. The fees are due at the start of each month.
School Fees are marginally increased at the beginning of each academic year.
