Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Tarus visited Kenya Defence Forces Quick Reaction Force (KEN QRF 4) troops training at Kangaita Camp in Mt. Kenya, Nanyuki.

The soldiers are conducting pre-deployment training.

This is to prepare for deployment to the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).

During the visit, the commander commended the troops for their resilience and high readiness level as they prepared to represent the country in DRC.

Tarus informed them that KDF will facilitate their continuous training to ensure they are mission-ready.

He further expressed satisfaction at the troops’ preparedness as they plan to take over the mandate from their predecessors.

He encouraged them to fly the Kenyan flag high by upholding a high sense of integrity, professionalism and discipline.

Tarus further encouraged the team to protect civilians and pursue peace per the United Nations (UN) Code of Conduct.

“You are not only the ambassadors of the Kenya Defence Forces but of our country as a whole. Therefore, conduct your duties with utmost dignity and professionalism, and stick to the mandate put in place,” he said.

The Army Commander also urged the troops to take good care of their families at all times whether they are still in the country or they are deployed.

“The welfare of your families will be of utmost importance for the period that you will be away. I urge each one of you to make the necessary arrangements to ensure that your families are comfortable,” said Lt Gen Tarus.
