A Kenyan woman has hilariously taken a dig at Kenya Power.

Issy Miano claimed the continued power outages in the country have helped her read books.

Miano narrated that she has experienced 20 outages since the year began and has already read 8 books.

She thanked Kenya Power for helping her read the books and shared photos of the books she managed to finish during the outages.

“Thanks to Kenya Power Care I’m on my 8th book this year. I resolved at the beginning of the year that every time there’s a power outage I read a book. So far we’ve had at least 20 outages and this is how far I am in my reading. If we continue like this for another 2 years I might run out of things to read,” she said.

She joked that he the situation continued in the next two years she would run out of books to read.

In May 2024 Kenya Power said most parts of the country suffered a power outage after a system disturbance on the grid.

In a public notice, the company said this resulted in power supply disruption in most parts of Kenya.

“We regret any inconvenience caused and urge for patience from our customers as we work towards restoring normal power supply at the earliest opportunity,” the notice said.

EPRA (Electricity and Petroleum Regulatory Authority) is also planning to limit the number of times a customer is hit by a power outage to 20 per year.

EPRA demanded Kenya Power to improve from the current average duration of four hours and 52 minutes for each power blackout.

The recommendations in the code restrict the duration of each blackout – Customer Average Interruption Duration Index (CAIDI) – to a maximum of four hours.
