A private investor won the bid to operate Victoria Annex Hospital in Kisumu County in a bid to improve the performance of the sub-county hospital.
The management of the hospital which has been an annex of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) will be operated by Oasis Doctors Plaza.
Business Daily reported that Oasis which operates 18 medical facilities across the country will run the project for a renewable period of five years.
Following the new development, the medical firm said it will pump in KSh 236 million in the plan which will be executed in two phases.
“Phase one will entail renovations, revamp the offices and purchase of basic equipment done with a projected cost of KSh 50 million starting June 2022,” said the firm.
Adding; “The second phase will entail set-up of a comprehensive radiology centre with MRI and CT-Scan, specialised units including a cancer centre and a Critical Care Unit at a cost of KSh 186 million.”
Kisumu County is leasing out the facility under a revenue share plan and the county is expected to generate KSh 45 million by the end of the contract period.
Victoria Hospital was previously operated by JOOTRH but the approach has failed due to policies that bar part-time private practice by clinicians in government-owned facilities.
